This Broken Thing Empty This Broken Thing

I'm fighting with this...this broken thing.

Silver tears streaked down the young woman's porclein face, falling off her cheeks and splashing onto her black tank top. The tears continued to flood her denim blue eyes, pooling over and racing down her cheeks again. They were never going to stop, they seemed relentless. The words kept playing over and over in her mind, an endless tune that would not leave her. She was fighting, fighting to fit the pieces of her broken heart together. But, the fight was futile, because she knew she would never win. When her heart broke, it didn't break even. It had shattered. Shattered into a million small fragments. They could never be put together again, no matter how much super glue and duct tape she used. The young woman's back was against a tree, the bark scratching her pale skin with her every move. Another violent sob shook her body, and she took in a shuddering breath as more tears flowed.

She could run to no one, she could no longer talk to the people she cared the most. In the length of two months her life had came crashing down on her, and she was slipping down a slippery slope which was leading to her demise. Her best friend since she was a baby now lived across the ocean, her father's career no longer wanting him in the states. She was gone and since then all she could do was talk to her over the internet. That was two months ago, right before her senior year in highschool. Her parents no longer lived together, it was too awkward for them as they went through the divorce they just filed. They didn't get along, her father had been unfaithful, and her mother was too angry to try and work anything out. They told her this a month ago, right before her father moved out and now had nothing to do with his daughter and soon to be ex wife.
And tonight, tonight was why she was here in this deserted park, sobbing like a woman who had lost everything. And in a way she had, she had lost everything that had been dear to her. She had gone to the house of her boyfriend of five years, wanting to surprise after she had gotten home early from a youth group trip. She walked into the house, like she usually did, looking around. The sight on the couch froze her in her tracks, made ice splinter through her heart and start the process of its destruction

There he was, sitting on the couch with some other girl. His arm was snaked around her waste, her hand was lying on his knee. He turned and his lips brushed against her ear as he whispered sweet nothings to the woman, things he use to whisper to her, making the girl smile and giggle innocently. His hand came up to brush aside the girl's long auburn hair, and right before there lips met, an uncontrolled and heart broken cry of pain escaped through the grieving woman looking on. He looked up, shock coloring his every expression, "Ainsly, its not what it seems. Let me explain," He said in that rich, deep voice that use to comfort her so much. But now it only brought anger. She turned and ran out the door, the first tears starting and blurring her vision. She got as far as here, the park she had now been at for two hours.

He had not come looking for her, her mother no longer cared where she was, and her friend was gone and not available to talk. It couldn't get worse. Her life was past ruin at this point. Another sob wracked the petite woman's body, causing pain to course through her back and she rubbed up against it. She didn't care though, she no longer cared about anything. Nothing in life mattered, since she had lost everything that had once mattered to her.

Fear made the girl jump when a warm hand touched her cold shoulder, and her bloodshot eyes looked up to see who dared to come over to the grieving girl. Her eyes met that of a hazel eyed boy, pushing a year or two older then her. A comforting smile spread across his face, dimples showing. "Why don't you come with me, warm up and we can talk," He said, lending a hand out to her. His voice sent a warm, calming thrill to her, and she found herself takig his hand and getting to her feet.

My character-

Ainsly Heather Jeriband-Feminine-Seventeen and a half years of age-Her has large denim blue eyes, ringed with black that reflect her every emotion. Her bruenette hair falls to the middle of her shoulder blades, wavy at the top with loose curls at the bottom. Side swept bangs frame her heart shaped face nicely, while small freckles are sprinkled across her nose and cheekbones. She is petite and fragile looking, standing at five foot tall with porclien skin. She is caring and loving, but takes lose heart. She trusts people easily, which often gets her hurt.

Nikolaus always got bored sitting around at home. He hated every last bit of it. Today was a good day to go walkabout, not too hot, but also not too cold. Even if it was raining he would still go out.
He headed out of the front door and walked towards the park. There were a few others walking around, doing their daily jobs of groceries shopping and whatnot. Some smiled and gave polite greetings to him as they past. He just nodded and smiled back to them. Some would completely ignore him and everyone else for that matter. They were obviously too busy to care about others.

Nikolaus soon reached the park. It wasn't much of a far distance to go, just about a 30 minutes walk from his house, even longer if you took the back way through all the housing. He would sometimes take that route. Just so he could have a little more alone time. But normally he took the shorter route. He enjoyed the atmosphere of the park. Children screaming and laughing, having fun, too young to understand what life is really like. Then you had the trees, which gave long peaceful walks, away from the play area. The voices became distant and easily tuned out. Nikolaus just enjoyed the whole idea of being outdoors, it always gave him high spirits, no matter what.

Today, Nikolaus felt like going for a peaceful walk. There where many paths that he could choose from. Some short, some long, but all joined up somewhere, and if you choose the right ones you would take yourself on a large walk all around the park. He casually strode of down the path to his favourite place. A small area with a pond and seating, not many came here, just the few that either fed the ducks and left or those who sat and stared into nothingness.
Nikolaus found his usual seating. There was no one else around, just him the ducks and the air around them all. He plunked his butt down onto the cold, wooden bench, Let out a big sigh and relaxed. He looked around himself, there was nobody at all around. He found a random spot that sucked him into a daydream, just staring at the spot, thinking about anything that popped into his head. Random memories.
Nikolaus remembered the time he was at the exact park, at the age of seven. Running around without a care in the world, just enjoying himself. Climbing trees, falling out of those trees. He laughed to himself softly. Climbing to the tops of the highest trees he could find, and getting stuck in one. Someone ended up helping him down. When he got down they all just laughed about it. That was the same day his mother had left them, she had gotten bored and wanted to explore. But his father did not want too. His mother had ended up going of backpacking around the world, no idea where she was or if she were alive, dead or with some other guy. She never rang, wrote to them, or even sent postcards. She was gone.
Nikolaus came back out of his daydream and sighed. It had messed up his good feeling. So he stood up and headed further into the wooded areas. He had no recollection of how long he had been daydreaming. He didn't even care though, its not like he had to be home at a certain time really, since his dad was working out of town, he wouldn't be back until a week.
Nikolaus had gotten quite far into the woods, when he notice a young girl, maybe just a year or two younger than him. She was sitting with her back against a tree, looking quite sad. He could tell she was by the way she was sat. When he got closer, he then realized she was crying. He had seen her around a few times. He approached her carefully hoping that he wouldn't startle her. He gently placed his hand on her shoulder. She was freezing compared to his warmth. It was properly colder than he though, but he never really felt it. She jumped when she had felt his hand on her shoulder. She looked right into his eyes. She had been crying for ages. He smiled gently to her. "Why don't you come with me, warm up and we can talk," he spoke softly and offered his hand to her. She took it instantly and stood up. He gently released his grip on her hand. She really was cold and he didn't have a jacket to give her. She would have to get into the warmth soon, or she would catch a death of a cold. He turned around, the way he had just come, it was the shortest way to get back and out of the park. He didn't know what else to say. Would she mind him probing at her for what was up with her. He then remembered that he always carried a tissue in his pocket. It had been there for a while, never been used. He dug into his pocket and handed it to her. He smiled at the crumpled tissue and her "Its not been used, honest" He said slightly enthused.

Ainsly looked at the tissue mumbling a soft "Thank you," That came out in a broken tone of voice. She used it to wipe her eyes and nose, thinking it was almost useless because she knew more tears would come. But, she needed to stop crying, she didn't like to cry in front of other. It made her feel like a baby and a hog for attention. Which was not what she wanted right now. She put the used tissue in her short pockets, looking over at the man who had braved whatever she was going through to come over and try to help. It had surprised her, since many men ran when they saw women starting to get emotional. Her father had been like that, many of the reasons why they always fought. Tears started to well up in her eyes again, threatening to break through and run down her cheeks as she thought of it. She wiped her eyes before they could do run a race down her face. She looked up at him and then away, wondering what to say.

On a regular day she would of been mortified he was around, her eye make up was smeared, her denim blue eyes bloodshot, and her hair was probably resembled a bird's nest. Her back hurt from being scratched, and she was sure it was an angry red by now. Her tank top was dirty and her knees were scratched up from falling over and over again trying to get here. Her shorts were dirty from where she had sat on the ground. She was a wreck, but she didn't care. She almost looked as bad as she felt inside, and it didn't matter to her anymore. Why should it matter what she looked like to this kind man.? He would just drop her off at her house and he would be gone, not caring what happened to her after that. She wasn't optimistic about anything, she didn't have a reason to. No reason to get your hopes up about someone being nice when it was just going to be dashed and proved wrong, more then likely leading in hurt. She didn't need any more hurt. She didn't think she could stand anymore hurt.

As she stood there, things came to her mind that wasn't there before. Her back hurt something terrible from the tree, her right knee was scratched but the blood had tried, her hands were raw from catching herself when she stumbled, and she was shivering, her body's reaction to trying to keep her warm. She sniffled, wondering where to go from here. She really didn't want to go home, her mother had been off work all day, calling in sick. She didn't want to deal with her overcurious mother who would end up just annoying her and making her snap. She didn't need to mess with upsetting her mother and getting yelled at. Ever since her father had left her mother had a nasty attitude, and she really didn't want to hear it.

Niko suddenly stopped walking and turned to face the young woman, who he had kinda rescued. Well in his mind thats what it was a resucue. She looked terrible. She had some cuts on her and she was practically covered in mud. Before he could even stop hiself he spoke what he didnt really want to ask. "Do you want to come back to mine so i can help you out?" He mentaly kicked himself. Oh did he sound like a fool or what. He turned away from her and shoved his hands in his pokets. He kicked at the ground and waited for her to speak, or run. Do anything that didnt involve him. He really hoped she wouldnt accept the invite. Maybe it would scare her off? He was being a fool.

Alora looked up at him a little surprised. She didn't know him, but it wasn't like she had anything better to do. She was wreck, and she couldn't go home like this. She didn't want to go home at all. She sighed, she couldn't say no, she would feel like a jerk if she did. "Sure," She said, looking around and then back at him. She rubbed the back of her, feeling a bit out of place now. She really thought this was a recipe for disaster, but why should she care anymore.? It couldn't get any worse then it already was. She didn't have much left, so why not.? She sighed, she was being a rather negative person. But she didn't care anymore though, it wasn't like anyone was in her head listening. She wondered why the man had stopped to help her anyway, did she look that out of place and forlorn.? Yeah, she probably did. She sighed, she defiantly looked like she needed some help, but she still wondered if this man had other intentions. She really didn't trust anyone anymore, not after what had just happened. And between the divorce and what her ex had just done, trusting guys were on the bottom of her list. So there was that little voice in the back of her head telling her that he was simply here to tell her he was joking about helping her and laugh about with his friends later who were secretly watching. At that thought she looked around, searching through the shadows to see if there was anyone there. She didn't see anyone.
