Harley didn't seem too pleased at his embarassing confession, although he hadn't expected her to be. But still... He wasn't sure why she was being so serious.
“What am I going to do with you?” She said, sighing at him.
Oh, so she thought he was secretly asking her to please him again? She'd done enough of that through the night.
“Well, that depends.” He cooed, getting up I his knees and cuddling her from behind. His head rested heavily on her shoulder, and he shamelessly pressed his crotch against her back. “Do you fancyy cuddling for a litle longer or do you feel like trturing me for a few more days? Because I could deal with that.” He smirked. “I wouldn't last loong, though.”

Harley 'mm'ed in response, a sly smirk crossing her face as she felt his warmth on her bare arms. "You'd love that wouldn't you?" She looked sideways at him. "I feel tempted to leave you, unless you can convince me otherwise." She raised an eyebrow, wrapping her arm up and around the back of his head. She pulled him closer and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. Harley glanced at the clock again, surprised at how fast the time had gone. It was now approaching 7.30am, but the darkness outside could have convinced her otherwise. She didn't like winter much. Turning back to Nico, she studied him. "Well...I got nowhere to go." She stated, her eyebrow still raised, her tone slightly flirtatious.

Nico found his expression begin to mirror Harley's when he saw her smirk. He couldn't help it, she was contagious. Even after such a dramatic night he found himself mesmorised by her... All of her. She excited him. But not like any other woman he'd met. It was like she was some toxic drug, and Hell, he couldn't get enough of her.
After everything he'd been through, he didn't even care about the consequences. He just wanted her, and he could tell she wasn't going to play nice with him.
“I feel tempted to leave you, unless you can convince me otherwise.”
Holy Christ, she was hot. Was she seriously going to make him beg?
Just then her touch tickled his back, causing him to shudder at the contact, and he waited patiently for her fingertips to find the back of his head and pull him close. He obeyed the touch without a single retort. But when she kissed him – on the cheek – he released a moan of quiet frustration.
“Well...I got nowhere to go.”
Finally!
Feeling his short fringe flop messily over his eyes, he grinned cheekily at her and giggled. His voice squeaked, as if it had only just broken.
“I know I don't.” He purred, rolling his head to try and catch a taste of her lips, but she was having none of it. “I usually wouldn't be conscious before eleven anyway.” He added with a soft chuckle, seemingly breathless. She had him right where she wanted him.
But if she was really going to get up and leave then he'd probably burst into tears.
He remembered something about having to go briefly meet an old friend from school to pick something up, but his thoughts soon rolled over it as his desperate wanting overcame his usual, more sensible train of thought. Right now he wanted Harley. The rest of the world could wait.

Harley's fingertips caressed through his tangled hair gently, curling her fingers around his messy locks softly as she regarded him with curious eyes. Sighing softly, she preoccupied herself for a moment by wondering about how the male species worked. It was like Nico was an entirely different sort of person altogether, quite unlike any other guy she had been with. Girls were so much simpler...yet really, really not. 
"I know I don't."
This made her roll her eyes. Well of course you don't. Why would you go anywhere when you have exactly what you want right here? Men.
She lazily denied him another kiss, rolling her head away from his wanting lips, the smirk still playing across her features. 

"I usually wouldn't be conscious before eleven anyway."
She snorted a laugh. "You keep telling yourself that honey." 

Of course, the option to just get up and walk away had disappeared as soon as he made his stupid confession, and for that she hated him. That small voice inside her was nagging at her to get going again, to find something to do, something that occupied at least half of her senses for a prolonged period of time. It was the same voice that had nearly made her walk out a few hours ago. Dismissing this with a mental wave of a hand, she sniffed.
 
"I suppose I have no other choice...poor you." She gave him another look. Poor boy was more than likely to have another breakdown if she walked away now. The odd thought stretched her grin wider. She liked having control. She supposed that it was in her nature.
Screw it.


With one motion, she turned and pushed him back down against the ruffled sheets on the bed.

“I suppose I have no other choice...poor you.”
Nico grinned at her. The clever woman... She was playing him like a card, wasn't she? And she knew he would do whatever she asked of him, because he was so incredibly turned on...
He opened his mouth to reply, but before he could even breath in she had jumped on him, pinning him to the bed and locking their lips together. If he'd had the chance, he would have laughed. Mostly with glee, since if she hadn't given him what he was craving he'd probably had crumbled there and then. When it came to sex, he was spoilt like that.

After yet another glorious session, and an hour of laziness, Nico had finally found it in him to get out of bed and have a shower. He used Harley's towel, just to spite her, but at least had the decency to get changed in the bathroom. He decided not to tell her he'd wiped his bits with her towel, though. He didn't really want to lose them.
“You know you said you didn't have anything planned today?” He asked as he wandered over to boil the kettle and make himself a coffee. “Well I need to go collect some CDs from a mate's house. Fancy coming along? We won't stay for long, I promise.”

Harley awoke when Nico stirred beside her, and after a few more minutes, she finally managed to prize her eyes open and sat up in bed. Her clothes had managed to find their own way back to the floor again, and sniffing, she stretched her arms as far as they would go, the bed sheet falling shamelessly away from her bare chest. Sighing contentedly, she rubbed a tired eye with the heel of one of her hands, and swung her legs over the side of the bed. Gathering her clothes, she slipped on her underwear and walked to the mirror on the adjoining walls, and peering at the person that stared back at her. Her hair was a tangled mess, and impatiently she bundled it back and secured it with a hair tie lying abandoned on the chest of drawers on the other side of the bed. 

The sounds coming from inside the bathroom told her that Nico was, again, having a shower. The door clicked open, and he walked out. Not bothering to claim the bathroom after him, she walked back over to the pile of the remaining clothes and rummaged through them to see if they were okay to be worn another day. She had noted the fact that he was already dressed, but dismissed this thought. Deciding that her clothes were okay, she managed to struggle into the rest of them. 
"You know you said you didn't have anything planned today?"
She mmmed in response. 
“Well I need to go collect some CDs from a mate's house. Fancy coming along? We won't stay for long, I promise.”


After struggling into her jeans with as much dignity as she could muster, she turned to Nico and shrugged. "Sure, sounds cool. I feel like I need to socialise more anyway." 
Bullshit. You just want to talk to someone that's not Nico without killing them.
"Remember, you need to look for your bike too," she sniffed "If it's a long way, I'm not walking there."

Tugging on her boots, her gaze was cast to her bag that was still on the top shelf. Reaching up to get it, her hand brushed the tequila bottle, and she smiled. "Hey..." She grabbed it with her bag and inspected the bottle, shaking it to hear what remained of the liquid slosh around inside. "I'm gonna need to keep you off of this from now on. It caused more trouble than it was worth." Throwing him a wink, she stuffed it in her bag. Crap. Harley cleared her throat.  
"That reminds me. We have to stop by the uh...the pharmacy on the way."

At the reminder of his bike, Nico's eyes widened. Damn... He prayed no one had stolen it, otherwise he'd be screwed for getting home.
Slipping on his skate shoes, he leant against the bed post as he watched Harley get her boots on, his eyes sometimes slipping down to her chest, glazing over his vision with the memories of the last night. When he looked back up again, she was holding a bottle of something.
His eyes widened. Was she not as hungover as he was?
“I'm gonna need to keep you off of this from now on. It caused more trouble than it was worth.”
He pulled a face at her, smirking flirtatiously as he leant over the bed towards her. “Really? Because you seemed like you were having a rather good time last night, Missy.” He teased, pursing his lips at her.
“That reminds me. We have to stop by the uh...the pharmacy on the way. ”
Nico's smile disappeared. Crap, there was always something to worry about after sex. For him, anyway. Nodding quietly he pushed himself off the bed and grabbed his bag, then turned back to her to make sure she was ready.
Still, it had been a very... Comforting night, and he couldn't find it in him to regret it. His head hurt, he'd lost his bike, he'd probably not have a sex drive for at least a week, but it had been worth it. At least now he knew he had someone to talk to when things were hard.
“Do you have anything to do?” He asked as she let him out the door. “After this, I mean.”

Harley threw the bag on her back in one motion, and walked past Nico to get to the door, opening it with her mind elsewhere. She was already eager to get out of the room. Wordlessly she turned to study him for a moment, the events of the past night running through her mind as she thought of things to say. Luckily, he was the one who spoke first, turning her head to watch him as he walked out the door. 
"Do you have anything to do? After this I mean." 
She followed him out and closed the door after them, shaking her head. "I don't think so." She mused absent-mindedly, digging her hands in her pockets. "I don't have an awful lot to do. I can't really go anywhere or do anything. I'm still a wanted criminal you know. Which sucks. " She sniffed. 

It almost felt weird walking beside Nico, and when she looked back over their brief friendship (if that's what it could be called), she realised that she hadn't really gone anywhere voluntarily with him beside her. The only reason that he was here in the first place is because he appealed to her better nature, plus there was no way she could leave him out there drunk and still see him in one piece the next morning. Which got her thinking, what was he to her exactly, anyway? They hadn't spent enough time together to be considered boyfriend and girlfriend...but maybe he considered her one so she didn't say anything. It was what it was. If only she knew what that meant. 

The passing of lights in the corridor made her head pound, and she squinted her eyes and moved her head slightly away from the glare when it became too much. She was going to break the silence by starting a conversation about his friend, but in the end she realised that she really couldn't care less.

Nico's headache was like Hell, but he managed to hear Harley through the blood pumping between his ears. She reminded him that she was still a wanted criminal, and he felt himself wince. Was what they'd done last night illegal, then?
He wasn't sure why, but that thought made him smile. Maybe he'd have to punish him sometime.
He had to scuttle out the room to keep from her shutting the door in his face, and followed her like a lost puppy through the corridoor. He wasn't sure how to get out, since he'd been extremely drunk when he'd got there anyway.
Waddling tiredly after her, he allowed his eyes to wander down the back of her body. Well, he hadn't done too bad, had he? She had a nice arse, definitely. And shapely legs. And she definitely knew how to control his hideous behaviour. Maybe he could stick with her, even just for a little bit.
“Hey, Harley.” He cooed, sneaking up behind her and grinning over her shoulder. Then, with a completely unsubtle giggle, he slapped her backside in a patronising fashion, then squeaked and ran off down the corridor, as if he feared she was going to attack him for that.
She probably was. But he was up for that.

Harley was pulled from her thoughts as Nico piped up behind her. "Hey, Harley."
She was hardly going to bother asking him what he wanted, it was probably something undignified or boring, when a startled yelp escaped her lips as he quite blatantly slapped her on the arse. The yelp turned into a growl, although she could hardly stay mad at him long, for it soon broke out into a grin. Watching him make off down the corridor with a child-like squeak was enough to make her laugh, and she shook her head as she did. "I'll kill you for that." She threatened, jogging after him, her skin still tingling on her backside. When they reached the stairs, she chased him down those too, taking the steps two at a time as her laughter echoed off of the walls of the small interior, and by the time they reached the bottom, she was out of breath, her chest aching from laughter. 

The helpless girl fled before her, nearly stumbling in her attempt to flee, her brain and her feet trying to co-ordinate in a moment of madness as she tied to make it down several flights of stairs. The Harlequin didn't miss a beat, she was after her in a second, taking the stairs the only way she knew how, three at a time, skipping over the bannister that twisted back on itself as she watched the girl clear another flight of stairs, the liquid drum of her heartbeat thudding in her ears as she pursued her prey. 


The flashback hit her like a brick wall, and even though she was already bent over trying to regain her breath, she had to hold onto the railing at the bottom to stop herself from keeling over completely. In a moment her smile was gone, replaced by a look of terror and confusion. The pain in her chest seemed to have been magnified, and it no longer seemed to be from the exhaustible laughter, but from the uncovering of these painful and previously undiscovered memories. The temperature had suddenly seemed to raise a great deal, and it was only after she had let her legs collapse from under her so she thudded onto the bottom step that she realised that she was sweating. Looking down at her hands in her lap she realised that she had started to shake uncontrollably.

“I'll kill you for that.” Harley teased him from down the coridoor, and he sped up towards reception. He didn't doubt her threat after he'd smacked her backside so patronisingly.
“I'll stay over here, then!” He jeered, slowing his pace to a swaggering walk.
He reached reception, but when Nico didn't hear Harley's voice from behind him anymore he began to worry. The corridor wasn't that long, and she still hadn't replied when he paused to wait for her.
“Harley?” He frowned down the corridor, but she didn't appear around the corner. Eyebrows knitting together he retraced his steps cautiously, until he reached the point where he'd fled from her, to find her sat on the bottom step of the stair case, her face sheet white and her hands shaking by her sides. She looked almost as traumatised as he had when he'd had that nightmare the previous night.
“Harl?” He asked her, calmly now, and gently knelt by her side. “Harley, what is it? What's up?”
He murmured, reaching out a hand to stroke hers.

Harley didn't look up as Nico arrived back around the corner at the edge of her vision, and she sniffed, wiping a tear away that had run down her cheek. She tried a smile, looking at him out of the corner of her eye when he crouched down to her level. "I'm fine." She said shakily, trying to steady herself when she felt his hand on hers. Still looking down, she absently patted his hand, taking deep breaths to calm her breathing. There was no way she could possibly explain what had just happened, so she decided to ignore the subject completely. "Come on." She said, her tone suddenly strong and not demanding of an argument, even though it cracked a little. "Let's go." 
Without another word, she stood up and, checking her balance, she walked off towards the exit. As she walked, Harley realised that her hands still hadn't stilled, so she shoved them in her pockets as a solution to her problem.

Harley tried to convince him that she was fine, but Nico wasn't blind. He'd noticed the redness of her eyes from crying and the stray tear running down her cheek. He wasn't sure what had given her the sudden change of state ((she turned into a gas before his eyes... :O )) but it had to be something really damned serious,, since he'd never seen her cry before and he doubted she was the sort to cry on a whim.
But it seemed she wasn't going to tell him yet, so he didn't push the subject. Instead, he lifted his hand to her cheek and brushed away a few strands of stray hair, pulling it behind her ear. Then, with a clearing of his throat, he backed off and gave her room to stand.
He remained quietly aware that she was hiding something as they wandered out the cheap hotel, him hovering close to her in case she needed him, but the stubborn cow she was, she pretended everything was fine. Or, at least, she told him so. He would have been an idiot if he'd believed it.
“Whereabouts did I meet you last night?” He asked, changing the subject carefully. “Maybe my bike is somewhere around there.”

Harley didn't speak until she was spoken to, preferring to keep quiet in case her voice cracked again. She could feel Nico close behind her, no doubt he meant well but the feeling of his eyes never really leaving her back made her itch in irritation. She never had reacted well to being watched. After a few awkward minutes of walking in no direction in particular, Nico decided to break the silence, almost making Harley jump. "Whereabouts did I meet you last night?" She shrugged. "Maybe my bike is somewhere around there?"


"It might be." Harley cleared her throat. "I'm not sure how far you walked but I didn't see you anywhere near it when I saw you. You were right on the outskirts of town." He had obviously been drinking that night, so where abouts could he have come from? "It might be parked by the bar up that way." She gestured off to her left, towards the bar that she liked to frequent. As they wandered through town, she spotted the shop she needed. "Wait here." She ordered, before walking off towards the pharmacy without another word.

Once she had acquired and administered what she needed ((Can't remember if the pill is free or not so it is now cause she's broke >.>)), she stuffed the remainder of the small rectangular box into the bottom of her bag and walked silently out to meet Nico on the street. "Maybe we can just go and meet this friend of yours and look for the bike later. I'm sure it'll be fine." She shrugged again, hands in pockets. "I don't really fancy walking all the way out there, especially if your bike's not there, and all the way to this other place you want to go to."

Nico's eyes widened when Harley told him exactly where he'd been before he saw her. The outskirts of town? What the Hell had he been doing out there?
“It might be parked by the bar up that way.[/i]”
Nico nodded. The bar. That made more sense.
They both started walking in that direction, when Harley stopped him outside a pharmacy and ordered him to wait outside for her. He remained obedient, for once, because he understood what she was doing. Perhaps it was his fault for not thinking he'd 'get any' for once, since he was known to be one who'd sleep around a bit, but oh well. It was done with now. Although he'd happily do it again.
By the time she came back out, he was smiling dreamily of whatever memories he had left of the previous night.

Harley's attitude had changed by the time she had come out, and when Nico noticed her serious face he had to force himself to calm down before he got too ahead of himself again.
She said something about going to see his friend first, but Nico's eyes had already fell on something.
My bike!
Grinning stupidly, he jogged over to it, until he realised someone had spray painted several synonyms of 'penis' all over the seat. His face fell. Why were people so immature?
Suddenly in a sour-mood, he mounted the bike and rolled it over to Harley, mumbling at how much scrubbing it would take to get it all off, and how expensive the bike had been.
“Grab on.” He jerked his head, gesturing for her to mount it. “It'll be quicker now.”

Harley trailed behind Nico wordlessly over to his bike, swallowing back a crude and vulgar remark referring to the words hastily sprayed onto the previously well-kept leather of the seat. At least they had transport. Swinging her leg over the middle when he brought it over to her, she straddled the seat and wrapped her arms around Nico's middle for stability. 
"Let's hope this friend of yours specialises in auto-detailing." She muttered, resting her cheek on the back of his shoulder. The cool of his jacket made her skin tingle, and she sniffed in the earthy leather scent, closing her eyes for a few seconds, silently waiting for them to move off.

((We didn't really get anything either. Rain and wind, but nothing very powerful. Kind of annoys me that there were so many people getting injured for being outside late and they said not to be outside unless really necessary, though. O.o It must have been bad if it was pulling trees down. ))

“What's that supposed to mean?” Nico raised an eyebrow as he revved the engine, secretly enjoying having her cuddling up to him. Harley may have been in a bad mood, but he rather liked her company.
“Hold on.” He told her, and rolled the bike out of the parking space with a strong flick of his foot. “And don't mind him. He's a bit of an arse, but he means well. Kinda like me, actually.” He grinned proudly, shoving his helmet on. Then, with another rev of the engine he set off down the road.

The bike came in handy in the end, since a twenty-minute walk was turned into a five-minute drive. Even with traffic it was quick. And Nico's friend lived in a small, pleasant-looking house with his sister and their Schnauzer dog, Barney. It was a quiet area they lived in, and Nico knew they weren't the sort of people to piss Harley off too much. The sister might not, at least.
Nico parked the bike up next to the second hand car in the driveway, then offered his hand to Harley. “I just need to pick up a few CDs, but I haven't seen him in a while so he might want us to stay for a drink. That okay?” Nico asked honestly, heading to the front door and knocking a short beat on the glass.

((I can't remember what we planned on calling this guy. XD Was it Ryan? Anyway, you can play him if you want. Or his sister, since she and Harl... you know. :3

Off to bed. Chat tomorrow. ))

((Yeah we got some pretty crap rain, no worse than usual though I guess. They really played it up in our area cause we were getting the candles out ready for powercuts and then nothing happened ;-; Its sad that people gut hurt though :/ And I was gonna call the sister Ryan  Im gonna go with Tom for the brother but if you want to change it just go for it! And I'm so sorry I wrote so much >.> I get wordy when I'm tired which is the complete opposite of anyone else I know xD)) 

Harley's grip around his waist tightened a little as they set off, not wanting to admit that the slight swaying motion as they rounded corners made her a tad nauseous. 
Nico was right, their house wasn't far, although it would have seemed a lot further had they walked, and for that Harley was grateful. She was hardly in the walking mood, she felt more like falling face-first onto a comfortable bed and sleeping the rest of the day away. When they pulled up outside a house, it wasn't what she had expected. To be honest, she didn't know what she expected, but it wasn't a small, cheerful looking detached house in the middle of a relatively silent area. The atmosphere was, to her, unsettling. Dismounting the bike awkwardly, using Nico's shoulders as leverage, she stretched and followed him to the door, trying to ignore the minute trembling in her hands that she had once again stuffed into her pockets. It would have to wait until she had a spare moment. 

Leaving Nico to knock on the door, she turned to observe the small garden that stretched out in front of the house. The metallic sound of a lock unclicking snapped her out of her trance, shortly followed by the noise of a door being yanked open. A masculine voice caught her attention. 
"Nico!" A large figure stepped through the doorframe and enveloped him in a man-hug. "Good to see you, man! How've you been? I'd started to think you'd given up on me." She could see his gaze do a double take from Nico to her own, and she tried not to look bored as he addressed her. "Well, who have we here?" He looked to Nico for approval, eyebrow raised. 
"Harley." She wasn't sure what else to say, so she left it at that, giving him a slight smile and not caring if she appeared rude with her hands in her pockets. It wasn't like she was going to be staying here long anyway, or shaking anyone's hand.
"Harley, huh? I'm Tom." 
"Tom, who is it?" A feminine voice called from inside the house. 
"It's only Nico, Ry." 
The name caused her heart to miss a beat, and for a second she felt light headed and her mouth dry. She hadn't heard that name since...trying not to get lost in her thoughts she followed Nico in as Tom invited them inside to stop herself from being left out on the porch. 

The house had a simplistic interior, or it would have if it hadn't been hidden under piles of young-adultish crap. CDs and DVDs were strewn everywhere, as well as the box from what looked like last night's pizza. It was moderately tidy, and Harley seated herself on the edge of one of the dining chairs when offered. Tom struck up a conversation with Nico about one thing or another, so Harley was left with no other option than to look at the various decorations that adorned the room that was both a living room and a dining room in one. There was a bookcase of nothing but CDs ad DVDs with empty slots where those on the sofa belonged, which she had to admire. There were no photos of relatives anywhere, except for one picture on the coffee table that looked like it showed a youthful looking tom standing in a boat holding up a rather large fish on the end of a line. Harley sniffed. None of this stuff was relevant to her, and neither was their conversation, so she got up with a mutter of "I'm going to get a drink.", before heading off to the kitchen. They hadn't seemed to hear her anyway. 

The kitchen was much of the same, and she spent a good few minutes searching the cupboard for a glass that looked decent enough to drink from. When she finally found one, she filled it at the tap and downed it in one, the refreshing sensation welcome to her dry throat. Putting the glass in the washing up bowl, she was about to turn and leave when she heard footsteps on the stairs, and the same female voice calling "Tom?". Judging by the laughter that was coming from the front room, they hadn't heard her, and when she came into the kitchen looking for him it was a good thing that Harley had put the glass down. She would have damn near dropped it. 

For what seemed like hours neither of them spoke. "Ryan." The choked noise that she made sounded nothing like her own voice. The girl that faced her was a tall, slim, blonde girl of about her age, with hair cropped to her shoulders and faint freckles that crossed the bridge of her nose. She couldn't see the freckles now but...they were there. 

Aware that neither of them had spoken again for a good few minutes, Harley tried clearing her throat, but it had dried up again so rapidly that she found herself in fits of pain as a coughing fit overcame her. Bending over the sink again, she gulped down another glass of water. When she turned back around to face Ryan after the tears had cleared from her eyes, she wasn't surprised to see that she had hardly moved. She had taken perhaps two paces towards her during that entire ordeal, maybe moving to help her out but then thinking better of it. "Uh..." With another three paces, Ryan had moved closer towards her, and did something unexpected. She slapped her. 
The movement was so unexpected and so sudden that she hardly had any time to brace for it, so her head snapped around from the force of the impact. "Wha-" She started, but couldn't finish as her jaw gave a sudden spasm of pain. Harley pressed her hand to it, a look of utter confusion on her face and her mouth hanging comically open.  

"First of all, how dare you?" Ryan started in a hushed whisper, careful to avoid detection from the males in the front room.
"How dare I what?" Harley hissed in return, dropping her hand from her face.
"Leave me!"
"You know I- wait, what?"
Ryan eyed her up carefully, choosing the right words to say. 
"We were happy. That was before it all happened. Before you had to land yourself in prison!" She spat the word like it was poison. "Prison, Harley! Of all places!"
"You must have a pretty messed up definition of happy." Harley retorted bitterly, the edge of the counter digging into her back. Ryan had her well and truly pinned where she wanted her. 
"Two years, we were together, Harl! Two years! And you think that it can just all be forgotten like that?" She snapped her fingers to prove a point. "No! You didn't tell me when you were getting out, how long you'd be in there, you told me nothing!" Harley averted her eyes. "I didn't know whether I had to move on or not. I just knew that you were alive as soon as that Harlequin crap started spewing all over my tv." 
Harley's gaze snapped back to her face in alarm, her heart pounding. She what? "W-wha-" She started. Ryan moved back a pace to give her more room, and scoffed, her tone a little more relaxed, although still keeping a low volume. "I've known you for too long Harley. I know you too well. That stuff might get past the DIs but it doesn't get past me." 

Surely that, alone would have merited her another slap, but Ryan seemed quite content with the one. "S-so you're not...mad?" Harley tried gingerly. 
"Goddamn it Harley, you've had some problems in the past but this one just tops the list." She sighed; a long, heavy sigh that said too much. Harley leaned back against the counter and rested her head on one of the overhead cabinets. After a long silence, Ryan stepped closer and took one of Harley's still trembling hands in hers, bringing it to chest-level and frowning at it curiously, watching it shake an obscure little dance. Harley looked away. "Is it...withdrawal?" 
Harley nodded, pretending to be fascinated by some of the plants she could see in the garden through the window. 
"Does that guy Nico know?" 
A wordless shake of the head. "I don't even know him very well." She muttered after a short pause. "I met him a few days ago and we just kinda..." she shrugged, hoping that the rest would be self-explanatory. 
Ryan still had her hand in her soft grip. "Well...it's good that you have someone at least." She detected a slight edge to her voice. Jealousy? 
"He's more than someone." 
"Then what is he?"
"I don't really know I just-" 

Her sentence was cut short by the bulky presence of Tom wandering into the kitchen, freezing by the doorway for a split second as he surveyed the scene. In a moment Ryan released her grip on Harley's hand so it dropped back to her side, raising her own to scratch her head whilst taking a few steps back from Harley so they weren't as close as before. With his brows slightly furrowed, he retrieved a few beers from the fridge and wandered silently back out, casting them a look as he did so. 
"Well...uh..." 
"Tell me about it."

Tom and Nico sat happily in the sitting-room-sort-of-area, although there was barely any sitting room with all the empty Strongbow cans and CD and DVD cases scattered over the floor. Typical Tom, really, although Nico had secretly expected better from Ry. She was always good at being the dominant sister, even though she seemed to have a surprisingly gentle personality. Nico liked to flirt with her every now and then, sometimes in front of Tom, but only if he fancied a dead arm. From Tom, or her.
“When was the last time your folks saw this sh*thole, Tommy?” Nico teased, grabbing a half-empty can of warm beer from he coffee table.
Tom swore at him as he turned on the football. “When was the last time...” He began, but apprently was too lazy to think of a witty comeback. Nico grinned smugly at him.
He gulped some beer, then pulled a face. It tasted vile, and flat. No wonder it had been left.
Rolling his eyes. Tm picked up the can of beer and strolled to the kitchen to throw it away. When he came back, he had a very strange and confused look on his face.
“Something's going on in there, man.” He murmured to Nico as he slumped back in his chair. “I sensed a bit of... Tension.” At first Nico wasn't sure what his friend had paused for, then his eyes glanced down to where his friend's hand was. It was making a 'rubbing' gesture over his crotch, and when Nico raised his eyes again Tom was sticking his tongue out in a way that made Nico shudder.
“Mate, you're gross.” He curled his lip in distaste, shoving his friend playfully. “Do you really want be to go in there and flirt with Ry? Because I will. You know I will.”
Tom's eyes narrowed. “Don't you dare.”
“I will.”
“You won't!”
“I'm going.” Nico grinned, leaping to his feet and sprinting like an excitable child to the kitchen. He skidded to a halt at the doorframe and, ignoring the serious atmosphere, leant coolly against the door frame and raised a flirtatious eyebrow.
“Why hello, ladies.” He purred.
As Tom reached him from behind, Nico elbowed him in the rib then turned to the two by the work top. His eyebrows raised. “Everything alright?”

The two watched the empty space that Tom had left for a few moments after he had gone, just to make sure that he wasn't hanging around by the doorframe. When they were positive that he had gone and talking could be heard again from the front room, Harley took Ryan's distracted nature to grab another drink. 
"He'll know." She sighed simply, walking over to the fridge and flipping it open.
Harley choked on her water, close to erupting into another coughing fit. "About what?"
"About us." She sniffed. "He gets his intuitive nature from me, you know. I am 5 minutes older than he is." 
She snorted. "Like hell he does. Does he know about you?"
It was Ryan's turn to look confused, tearing her gaze away from the apparently riveting contents of the fridge. "What about me?"
A smirk twitched at Harley's lips, and she raised an eyebrow. "That you like banging chicks." She seated herself on the countertop, still clutching the glass of water. She couldn't tell if the expression was shared by Ryan or not, but the way her eyes crinkled at the sides made it look like she was trying to hide a smile. Embarrassed, she buried her head back in the fridge. Harley looked at the ground, still grinning. 

Once again, their conversation was interrupted by the sound of voices growing louder, so their conversation ground to a halt. Ryan was closer to Nico as he leapt into view, so Harley left it up to her to do the socialising. 
"Why hello ladies."
Ryan sighed. "I just can't seem to get rid of you. It's almost as if Tom's not the only reason you show up so frequently, hmm? Imagine that." Shutting the door with her backside, she emerged with two cans of 7-Up, a can in each hand. With barely a glance, she threw it behind her, and Harley caught it without much effort. It was a movement so perfectly orchestrated that it gave the impression that it had been done too many times in the past. 
"Everything alright?"
"Everything's fine." Harley answered, perhaps a little too quickly and bitterly than the situation demanded. Being careful to soften her tone a little, she continued "We were just having a chat." 

Ryan nodded, giving her brother a look. "And how are you, baby brother?" She emphasized the words. She didn't have much of a headstart on him, but damnright she was going to use it to her advantage.

Nico noticed Harley's reaction to be something suspicious, and he raised an eyebrow at her expression. She looked like she'd just been caught red-handed doing something. His eyes flicked curiously to Ryan – who was looking as hot as ever – and back to Harley again. He'd never seen her look like that.
Shrugging, Nico shamelessly walked right through the tension of the two young women in the room and wandered to the fridge to help himself to another beer. His eyes flicked flirtatiously in Ryan's direction, but he knew better than to make a physical advance towards her. Her and her brother would come down on him from all angles probably.
“And how are you, baby brother?”
Tom glared at Ryan as if he wished for her to burst into flames. “Perfect, sis.” He replied snidely. “We were having a man-talk, actually.”
Nico nearly spat out a mouthful of beer at this. The image of Tom rubbing his crotch in that sensual and rather disgusting fashion forced itself into his mind. 'Man-talk' was one way of putting it.
“Yeah, Tom was just saying...” Nico strolled coolly over to Ryan, placing his hand on the counter by her back, and shot Tom a daring look. “How there's a little bit of tension between-”
“Hey Nick, there's something on your arse.” Tom appeared behind him, and before Nico could ask him what he was talking about, a hand smacked painfully onto his rump, causing him to jump up and swear loudly. Any attempt at flirting left with the pain of the random spanking.
Nico glared at Tom, ready to spit out all sorts of abuse.
“It was pain.” Tom replied angelically. He had to flee the room a few paces to avoid a firm kicking  Nico slowly walked back to the kitchen to Harley, hiding subtly behind her as he rubbed his sore backside, his face contorted into a sulking fashion.
“Arsehole.” He sulked. “Has he ever done that to you?” He asked Ryan, looking far less cocky than he had when he'd entered the kitchen. Tom snickered at the kitchen door.

Harley slid off of the counter and watched the scene with a thoroughly unimpressed expression, leaving Ryan to do the smart talking. She was probably the only person in the world that could shut Harley up. Rubbing the back of her neck with a hand, she focused all of her energy on the sugary drink in her hand, the cold metal chilling her fingertips and wetting them with condensation. 
Ryan on the other hand seemed to have bounced back remarkably well. Completely ignoring Nico, she glared at Tom.
"Piss off." She swatted at her brother with her free hand, managing to tag him lightly on the arm as he made for the front room.
Finally seeming to notice that Nico had been there at all, she gave him a look that was half smugness and half annoyance with an eyebrow raised. "He's my brother. He's done a lot worse." She said simply, levering the tag on the can with a nail and popping it open with a hiss. 
Harley said nothing, hiding a slight smile. 
After a long gulp of lemonade, Ryan sniffed. "I'm not even sure that I want to know what kind of man talk you were having, I've lived with that prick for long enough to realise that he's only concerned about what's going on at the rear end of Kim Kardashian."
Tom made an indignant noise, and opened his mouth to protest when Ryan held up a finger in warning. "Ah, ah. You should really learn to clear your search history before you let me use the laptop." 
Slightly mortified, Tom clamped his mouth shut. Harley breathed a slight laugh from behind her can, and for a fraction of a second their gazes met from across the room. A fraction of a second was all it took for Tom's suspicions to rise. 

"So," he started, the smile evident in his tone. "What were you talking about?" 
None of your business, Tom. 
"That's none of your business, Tom." Ryan smiled sweetly.
"Oh really?"
"Yeah really." 
"So you know eachother?" He asked suddenly, hoping to catch his sister off guard.
"Yeah, we do." She retaliated without hesitation, causing an unexpected eyebrow raise from her brother. 
"Oh?" 
"She was my friend for a number of years." 
"Was?" 
"We...lost contact." 
Tom sensed her hesitation and understood that he had found a weak spot. Harley sensed it too, and she looked from Ryan to Tom, only to find that he was looking straight back at her with a distinct air of smugness. She shrugged. "What she said." She added, taking another gulp of her drink.
