Personality: Damien is incredibly caring towards his friends, caring about anyone that is close to him. He isn't known to hold grudges, but if someone really pisses him off, you'll know about it. Sometimes he has massive mood swings, so be careful, you may be on the recieving end.

Avani smiled at her best friend - Damien - as she pulled back the string of her bow. It was a contest they had. Who could outline each other the best with their weapons. She released the string and an arrow flew at the other boy. Iit landed on the wide tree with a thud - just to the left of his head.
"Bingo." She whispered to herself. "You can move now!" She called a bit louder. Her quiver was empty, and arrows surrounded him.

Damien hardly batted an eyelid as the arrow embedded itself into the tree, any more right and it would probably have killed him. That being said, if he were to die, he'd rather be killed by Avani than anyone else. Damien unstuck himself from the tree, one arrow had pierced his clothing, and nailed him to the bark, and walked over to Avani. Looking back, he admired it. "Well, I suppose that was a little neater than my attempt..."

"Oh, it was way neater than yours." Avani smirked. She walked briskly over to the tree to retrtieve her arrows and glanced around, slightly nervous. They'd been out in the forest for a couple hours and they still hadn't had any encounters with anything - be it a rabbit or an alien. She preferred the former, but it was like the forest... died. With a sigh, she walked back to Damien. "I wish we got some meat already."

Damien scoffed, letting her have her way. "I know, it's frustrating." He saw her look around, and walked up to her, pulling out the last of the arrows and handing them to her. "You'd think that they would have found out about this place by now."

Avani chuckled. "Not talking about alien meat. That stuff is nasty." She rolled her eyes, remembering the time when she was starving and had to eat a dead alien. It tasted like rotting fish. Worse than that. She'd eat a rotting fish any day, but never an alien. She sighed and tossed a rock over into a nearby bush. It rustled, and something moved.
"Speak of the devil." She muttered and notched an arrow, sending it flying into the bush.

Damien watched the arrow soar through the bush with a woosh and a flurry of leaves, before it made a small thud on the other side. Damien walked around to see what it was, bending down to pick up the dead rabbit by the ears. "You know better than to kill cute fluffy animals!" He put on a fake gushing accent and chucked it over to Avani.

Avani rolled her eyes. "Hey. It's food, right? Not much of this around." She yanked the dead rabbit away from him and examined the kill. Her mahogany arrow had pierced it through it's left temple. Good. It didn't ruin any of the meat. She grinned and pulled the arrow out, notching it back in her bow. "Maybe there's more around."

Damien shrugged, and walked around, notching an arrow into his own bow and arrow. Not his own weapon of choice, but it was decent for hunting. He walked a little way away from Avani, holding the string, eyes scanning the quiet forest.

Suddenly a bush rustled behind Damien. Avani yelled in a savage manner as the pale alien snaked up, raising a spear at the boy. Its head whipped around to face her, and its weapon changed course. It flew, hitting Avani in the calf, but not before she'd sunk three arrows into its torso. It shrieked, but pulled out a knife, preparing to attack Damien.

Damien whirled around just in time to see the alien turn on him, after having attacked Avani. "Avani!" He called, hoping she was okay. He staggered backwards a few steps, the attack having totally taken him by surprise. As the alien advanced, he looked sideways at the bow he had dropped in surprise, and reached out to grab it. In the same moment, the alien launched itself at him, baring the knife, but Damien never got a chance to re-notch the arrow.
The dead weight of the alien's corpse lay atop him as he struggled, the arrow having pierced it straight through it's neck, killing it almost instantly. He struggled to get it off of him, all the while coughing, the attack had left him totally winded.

Avani moaned as she fell backwards, watching the scene through closing eyes. She had enough sense to pull the long spear out of her calf. She winced as she did so. Afterwards, the pulled off her shirt adn wrapped it around the flowing wound. It was soaking through, and she hoped she wouldn't have to strip completely. She sighed and lay down, feeling very tired and drained...

Damien finally managed to heave the corpse off of him, and ran over to Avani, casting his bow aside. "Are you alright?" He knelt beside her, before taking off his own jacket and handing it to her. "Here, use this too. We ought to get back, you need proper medication."

Avani nodded weakly. "Da- Damien?" She whispered, voice hoarse. She attempted to take the jacket, but it slipped through her fingers, landing on the ground with a dull thud. "The- The spear. Had Verist- Veristinum." The powerful drug that could kill someone. It probably will take my life, Avani thought to herself.

Damien shut his eyes tight, the grim realization spreading over him. it took him a few seconds to gather his thoughts, before he opened them, and took the jacket up, wrapping it just above the wound. "This may hurt a little..." He clenched his teeth and tied a strong knot, doubling it so the jacket was clamped above the wound. Hopefully it should stop the blood traveling any further. In one motion, he picked her up in his arms, and started the journey back to the camp. "No-one's dying on my watch."

Avani winced as the blood circulation to her right leg was stopped. "No..." She slurred, making a feeble attempt to pull it off. When she couldn't, she fell back limply and drifted off into a deep sleep.

"Don't pull it off Avani, it's the only thing between you and burning lungs." He growled, her weight making her stumble slightly. He headed onwards as the camp came into sight, and stumbled into the medic tent. "Hurry!" He shouted at the medic. "She's been stabbed with a spear infused with Veristinum." The medic took a look at her, and looked at the makeshift bandage, before running off to his medicine, and pouring a few drops gently onto the wound. Damien knelt beside her, his hands clenched tightly, hoping she'd be okay.

Fire.
Avani felt fire in her leg.
She screamed and clawed at the wound, trying to smother the flames, trying to get them to cool down, anything... Tears ran down her unconscious face as she screamed and yelled in her sleep. Soon people were looking out of their small huts, trying to see what was going on.

Damien rushed forwards, holding down her arms, ssshing her gently. "It's okay Avani...It'll be over soon." He closed his eyes tightly, turning his head away from her, tears of frustration welling in his eyes.

The fire gradually began to fade, and Avani opened her eyes carefully. The light was too bright for her, so she had to squint. "Where's the rabbit?" She asked in a hoarse voice.

Damien opened his eyes and smiled, totally relieved. "Well..." He trailed off. "I sorta left it when you were about to die."
