The BME and Me 8D

I leaned back up against the tree. "If it's the story you're waiting to hear... it isn't much of one." I teased.

He stuck his tongue out. "I'm sure there is, you just don't want to tell me."

I laughed. "I'll tell anyone who will listen. It's just that, number 1, I suck at storytelling, and number 2, some of my memories were erased after..." I trailed off, remembering.

He shrugged. "Fine by me."

I raised an eyebrow. "Ah, I see. Well, I can try." I said. I leaned my head back against the tree. "I was... escaping someone... and I was forced to either jump off of a cliff, or be recaptured. Of course, I jumped. When I landed, about... oh, say 200-300 feet or so minimum, I was hurt, of course. I just laid there, then... I was struck by some sort of Lightning. When I regained consciousness, I learned I could use storms. And read people's minds." I said, trying to sum it up quickly. There were a few things I'd left out, for time's sake.

"Hmm..." He genuinely thought of this. "You weren't....a slave?" Even in the dim light he could see she was white, not black. He'd never heard of a white slave.

I sighed and smirked. "Well... Sort of... In a really sick, twisted way." I said, remembering again.

His eyebrows furrowed. "You know, I'd like to get a good look at you. Stay there, please." He stood and started walking along the river bank, looking for the shallowest bit of water. When he found it he called to Bayard, mounted him and went across. He hopped down on the bank, only a few feet from her. Bayard went back to grazing.

I stood still, leaning against the tree with my eyebrows raised as he came to look.

He looked her over, then his eyebrows furrowed again. "You say you were sort of like a slave? How so?" Being a soldier, it was his job to protect people. He didn't want something like that happening to anyone else.

I closed my eyes and shook my head again, looking down, embarrassed. "Well... It's... Kinda obvious, isn't it?" I asked, not looking him in the eyes.

He shook his head. "Not particularly." He didn't understand why such a pretty girl could be mistreated, it didn't make much sense to him.

I tilted my head. "Hm. I'd always thought it to be apparent. Maybe that's because I know." I said.

He eyed her. "Was whoever you were running away from an older man?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Older than I am, yes. But not old." I said with a sigh.

He looked at her again. "How old are you?"

I sighed. "15." I said to him.

He tilted his head. He was a year older than her. "How old was the guy?"

I tilted my head in thought. "Hm... 32 or so. Hard to tell. Then again, I was only 11 at the time..." I trailed off.

He blinked. "Did he...?" He trailed off, tilting his head.

I raised an eyebrow. "Did he what?" I questioned, curiously.

Shakes his head. "Nevermind. So, what were you doing up in that tree?"

I looked up at the tree. "Waiting, watching. Too scared out of my right mind to sleep any more. Besides" I paused, looking around. "The night is far too beautiful to waste unconsciously." I said.

He looked around, then nodded. "Yes, I suppose so. But if I don't sleep at night, I'd probably fall asleep during my..." He thought for a moment, "work." He finished. He smiled sadly. "If that happened I'd be worse than dead."

I nodded. "You get used to it, once you figure out to get energy from other ways. And when you haven't slept in four years." I said.
