Okays, have we decided on Avery and Rhys or Laiko and Kelly? And should the plot be high school, summer break, etc? I'll be able to start

Looks: Avery has plain, dull black hair, which he keeps permanently gelled in a boyish, spiky style. He is a little on the short side, and has a very light build - almost delicate. He tried to hide this, however, behind thick sunglasses, leather jackets and tarnished silver chains. On the rare occasion that somebody gets to see Avery's eyes, they are a soft, sensitive sky blue. Overall, Avery looks pretty plain, and a little weak, for the most part. However, he does have a sort of hidden charm... Something not many can see.

Personality: Carefree, open, happy, but is very passionate and gets very angry over things that make him mad

Rhys walked through the marble hallways of Darrington High, watching only his black shoes hit the floor. He didn't really have any friends because he rather new here. He was headed to language arts, which was perhaps one of his favorite classes. He got inside just as the bell rang and slid into his seat which was near the back of the room.

Avery sat at the back of the classroom and leaned back in his chair. It was a hot day, yet he still wore his usual tattered denim jacket. His hair was gelled up in its usual spiky style, and hiding his face were the same dark glasses that he would fight with tooth and claw to keep on. He had, too, and he would again. Those shades were a part of his disguise, and without them he felt naked and vulnerable. No... In this place, he could show no weakness. Students were like sharks. They smelled fear, and they ripped apart the one feeling it. In this place, Avery could not be beaten - he was determined.

"Avery Finn, lose those sunglasses." The teacher ordered as she walked in, not even bothering to look up. It had become an everyday thing, needless to say. "Shall I tell the principal you said that, Ma'am?" Avery asked politely, a playful edge to his voice and a slight smile twitching at his lips. He liked this teacher...
"Please do." She replied, "But you can go after the lesson."
Avery nodded, then leaned over to take out his books as the lesson began.
Needless to say, visiting the principal was a regular thing for him, since he was constantly refusing to obey teachers.

Rhys glanced at the boy in the glasses. Totally not the type he wanted as a friend. But his voice was nice, even if it was a little high. He could tell everyone enjoyed this class and he didn't see why not. So he made himself comfortable in his chair and tried to drone out the rumble of the other kids by closing his eyes and pretending he was asleep.

Avery watched curiously as the boy sitting just in front of him seemed to fall asleep. He disregarded it, since it was none of his business.
But when the teacher mentioned something about a new Creative Writing project, Avery could not simply sit back and let the boy sleep through the explanation. He had done that before, and he had deeply regretted it - since he had ended up not having a clue what to do. And of course, he hadn't been willing to ask anybody... He shifted uncomfortably for a moment, battling between the voice in his head that told him he should wake the boy, because it was the right thing to do - and the voice that said that it was every man for himself, and the boy's problems didn't concern Avery.
Finally, though, empathy won out as he remembered the times he had found himself in the same situation.
So he leaned forward, tapped the boy on the shoulder, and quietly whispered; "Best wake up, mate. Seems we've got a new creative writing project... You aren't going to want to miss this."
With that, he leaned back in his chair again - looking decidedly aloof behind his dark shades, which was just the way he wanted it.

"Hm?" Rhys murmured, rubbing his eyes groggily. He turned around to see the boy behind him with the glasses looking straight ahead. "What?" He asked again, feeling small under this obviously important figure. If his other schools had taught him anything, this was the school bully, even if it was a scrawny one. But what was he doing waking up the new kid? Nicely? Rhys shook his head to clear it but paid attention just as the teacher said, "it will be worth half of your grade. Any questions?"
Rhys didn't want to be the one to ask anything so he sat back, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. His face was beat red, but he stared straight ahead like nothing was happening. His thoughts were clouded with the boy's face, and Rhys wondered what, exactly, his motivations were, for the lack of anything better to do. He snuck another quick glance at him and the same thing filled his mind: A scrawny, pale, male trying to act tough. This wasn't, after all, the school bully. Rhys breathed a sigh of relief and concentrated on the lesson again.

At the boy's vague question, Avery nodded toward the teacher, who was just finishing what she was saying. He saw the boy refocus his attention, but by that time the explanation was over - and the boy had clearly missed it.
Ah, what the hell. He'd got in this far... If he was going to help the boy at all, he might as well do it properly.
So, knowing that nobody else would ask, Avery raised his hand.
"Yes, Avery, you have a question?" The teacher asked, seeming somewhat surprised. Avery avoided attention whenever possible - though it seemed to find him most of the time anyway - so it was rare for him to ask a question in class.
All the same...
"Sorry Ma'am, I didn't quite get that... Could you explain again, please?"
The teacher frowned slightly at Avery, but then began repeating her explanation. Avery zoned out - letting the words wash over him, staring blankly at the teacher, and nodding occasionally to pretend he was listening. Truthfully, he was a little disappointed in himself. Who was he to help out the new kid? It would only cause trouble, and he was supposed to be trying to remain inconspicuous. But of course, his secretly kind heart had won out over his logical mind. This only meant that, once again, his anxiety would lead him into a spiral of stress over the ramifications of his actions.
Simple actions, that would almost definitely never cause trouble anyway, but of course - he always had to think the worst...

"Have you got that now, Avery?" The teacher asked suddenly, the change in her tone jerking Avery out of his thoughts. The fact that several of his classmates were staring curiously at him, and the frown on his teacher's face told him that this was not the first time she'd asked that question.
"Uh, yes. I get it now. Thanks, Ma'am." Avery replied hurriedly - struggling to resist the urge to squirm under the stares he was now receiving.
Thankfully, the bell rang a second later, and Avery breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly stuffed his books back into his bag - keen to shove this lesson out of his mind and move on to the next one - or to the Principal's office... But he probably wouldn't bother with that. They had been through it a hundred times before... He wasn't taking his sunglasses off. He liked them, so there.

Rhys glanced back at Avery with surprise but made sure to listen carefully this time. Avery... didn't sound like a bully name. So, when the teacher was done explaining he furrowed his eyebrows and nodded, still not quite getting it. Though it was his favorite class, language arts was also his worst.
Now if only he had someone to explain it to him...
He sighed but went back to listening to the teacher and student converse. He looked at Avery again and saw a not too well concealed expression of worry. He raised an eyebrow quizzically but the bell rang, so he couldn't ask.
He rushed to get his papers but still nearly missed Avery walking out the door.
"Avery?" Rhys asked hesitantly. "Hi, I'm Rhys. Thanks for waking me up, I would have been screwed."
He laughed nervously at that and wished he could see Avery's eveys for his reaction. They were probably dark brown or black to match all that tough guy crap. Avery's slight frame convinced him even more he was trying to act tough and usually got picked on a lot.

Avery jumped slightly upon hearing the boy's voice behind him, and then he could have kicked himself for being so skittish. But instead, he just fixed an expression of ultimate confidence on the small section of his face not covered by his shades, and chuckled slightly. "Hey, we've all been there." He assured Rhys with a shrug. He stood awkwardly in the doorway for a moment, anxiety soon returning to him when he realised he had somewhere to be, and he wasn't going, but that he could hardly just turn and walk off when Rhys had started talking to him...
But now was not a time to panic, so instead, Avery nodded his head casually toward the corridor outside and said, "Walk with me."
He waited for Rhys to fall into step beside him ((Sorry for PP - feel free to block, and I'll edit. )), then glanced toward him and resumed talking. "So, Rhys... You're new here, huh? What do you think of this place?"
He watched Rhys a moment longer, then turned his attention back to where he was walking - knowing that he would probably trip if he didn't. His luck was terrible. And as if that wasn't bad enough, he was terribly clumsy.

Rhys laughed lightly when Avery jumped. His glasses covered up a huge portion of his face, but what wasn't was shining with confidence, which led Rhys to doubt his earlier conclusions about him being picked on a lot. Okay, maybe he was afraid of being picked on. Whoever he was, though, he was talking to him, and Rhys kicked himself mentally for not paying attention.
"...been there." Was all Rhys heard over his jumbled mess of thoughts. He shook his head slightly to clear it and heard much better when Avery said to walk with him.
Rhys bounded after him in an almost joyous manner becuse he'd finally found at least somem one to talk to!
So he followed Avery and listenend much better this time. "Yeah, I'm new here. Tranferred back in December." Rhys's father had to come work here after his job had transferred their headquarters. No matter what though, his dad was always on "buisiness trips" of some sort, which Rhys knew were not very buisiness-like and always related to women. And his mother? Rhys never knew her, for his father told him she'd died during the child-birth. And now it was all the way in April and he'd hadn't had a conversation with another living thing since then, except for the teachers, which didn't relly count. "Um, the people here are super nice." He said, his voice dripping in sarcasm. He watched his black feet hitting the marble floors quietly. The hallways were considerably thinning out. "Where's your next class? I have bio."

"Oh, transferred from where? Why?" Avery began, eagerly drilling Rhys for information. But then he paused, and checked himself. "Actually, don't answer that, it's none of business." He corrected with a laugh, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. "And yeah, people here can be jerks... Can't trust anybody these days..." Avery trailed off then, and once again, he could have kicked himself - harder, this time.
Nice going, Avery. Share all your issues and insecurities with the new guy, why don't you. Give him a dagger to stab you in the back with. Smart... Real smart. Complete genius, you are.
Shaking his mocking thoughts aside, Avery glanced up as they reached the biology ((That's bio, right? :3 )) class. "Here we are. Bio, right?" Avery asked - keen to change the topic. "I'm pretty sure I have bio now as well. And even if I don't - I don't really care, so in we go." He shrugged and smiled at Rhys, then entered the classroom and stalked over to his usual seat in the back. He was well aware that he was talking far too much, but he couldn't help it. He tended to do that when he got nervous, which was most of the time - especially when talking to guys.

"Arkansas. And we got transferred cus he works for- What? Okay, I won't answer then." He said lightly. He raised an eebrow at Avery's next statement though. "And why is that, may I ask?" He watched Avery obviously having a mental war with himself. He rolled his eyes. "Come on, we're almost at biology." Rhys laughed at Avery talking about he didn't care if he had bio or not.
"Just go in!" He exclaimed, pushing Avery in by shoving his chest. He raised an eyebrow questioningly, though, especially when he stalked back to the back of the room.
Not discouraged though, he plopped into the back of the room next to him but paid attention nto the teacher.

Avery sat tensely in his chair, arms folded defensively over his chest. He thought back to a moment before when Rhys had shoved him. That had been... Awkward. Had he... Felt anything?
Avery shuddered slightly at the thought, pulling his thick denim jacket shut and focusing his attention on the teacher. Or at least, pretending to. In reality, he was a little too freaked out to listen. He just needed an excuse not to look at Rhys -who he suddenly wished was sitting further away.
If his cover was blown... Ugh, no. Just no... He would just have to keep his distance from Rhys. He was a good guy... But as always, friendship wasn't worth the risk of his identity being found out. He wasn't even sure why it mattered so much... Just that it was important to him.

Rhys continued to glance at Avery throughout the whole class- who seemed to be pointedly ignoring him. After about a half hour of trying to get his attention, he decided to give up and actually pay attention. Avery continued to fidget through the period and Rhys finally decided to act as though nothing had happened, when in reality he was so freakin confused. He wouldn't confront Avery until they were alone, or at least where no one would hear them, so he'd spare him- he was a him, right?- the embarassment.
Rhys finally thought he understood the glasses and the dark apparel. It was his way of trying to keep everyone away. He snuck another glance at Avery.

Finally, Avery began listening to his logic once more, and it told him that simply ignoring Rhys would pretty much be shooting himself in the foot, since it would make him suspicious.
He would remain polite... Even friendly... But he would distance himself. Yes, that was a better plan.
So Avery accepted Rhys's attempt to catch his eye. He turned and offered a brief smile - lifting one hand slightly in a gesture of greeting. Then he turned back to the front of the class, and actually listened to the last few words the teacher said before the bell rang.
Just one more period before break, and he would not have the same class as Rhys. Why? Because even if he did, he would skip it. Simple. Avoiding somebody was not difficult in such a big school, thankfully.
So Avery hurriedly gathered up his books, then walked off toward the door.

Rhys smiled back at Avery, thankful he wasn't ignoring him anymore. He turned back to the teacher, clearly more focused now. Then the bell rang and Avery rushed out. Rhys arched an eyebrow in surprise but followed after him, catching up to him. "Hey." He asked. "During break do want to meet up?" He kicked himself for sounding so childish, but he didn't know how to reword it. For the millionth time, he wished his could see Avery's eyes to catch his true reaction.
He wondered if Avery knew about him and his little sshove, and that was why he was being avoided. Rhys grabbed Avery's shoulder. "You can't avoid me forever. I'd eventually end up stalking you." He smiled, but his eyes remained deadly serious. He pondered about ways to get Avery alone to talk, and if he'd really have to stalk him.

Avery chuckled slightly at Rhys's question - smoothly masking his nerves, and remaining perfectly casual. Thankfully he was a pretty good actor. But as luck would have it, he was not a quick thinker, and he couldn't think of a way to say no...
Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, Rhys saved him the trouble by grabbing his shoulder, saying something that Avery only half heard - so intent was he on the feeling of Rhys's hand on his shoulder.
He tensed instantly - panic washing over him, so intense that it could almost pass as true fear. But of course, he had to be cool... He couldn't fling off the boy's hand and start freaking out and screaming like a lunatic... No, he would do that later.
So instead, Avery casually shrugged his way out of the hold, and airily replied, "Dude, lighten up. I'm not avoiding you. And I'd be glad to meet you at break, but I can't, because I have to pay a visit to the Principal." He shrugged vaguely, fixing a fake smile on his lips, and waited for Rhys to reply - willing himself all the while not to freak out.

Just his luck... The one time he broke his own rules - he accidentally befriended somebody troublesome. Why did he have to be so stupid?! He should never have woken Rhys. He couldn't trust this guy... For all he knew, Rhys actually could stalk him. He could hurt him, too... It was obvious this guy was far stronger than him.
Lady luck was a cruel bitch, and Avery was certainly not her favourite person.

Rhys felt Avery tense up under his hand, and thought that was strange. "Ave. I know you've ditched the principal before. And you lighten up, kid, I don't even know how to stalk." He laughed nervously, but the nervousness didn't show. Hopefully. So he just shrugged and said. "Okay, then, maybe I'm just being oversensitive. You have no idea how good it is to talk to another living thing. That's your age." He smiled at Avery hopefully, his whole face lighting up. He couldn't bear to lose Avery now, even if he had only known him for an hour...

Ave. Only his father used that nickname... And of course, that fact freaked Avery out all the more. "Ah, of course..." He replied calmly - though he wasn't really even paying attention to what he was saying. He just wanted to get away, really...
Rhys scared him. That was the truth.
"Well, I'm glad to be of service!" He laughed in response to Rhys's next comment - determinedly thrusting his thoughts aside.
"And I'd be glad to talk some more, but right now I have to get to class - don't want to be late... So I'll see you later."
He smiled brightly at Rhys, then waved cheerfully and began walking in the opposite direction without waiting for the boy's reply.

Rhys rolled his eyes but walked the other way without saying anything. He didn't care that his class was the other way, because Avery was pissing him off. He had seemed friendly enough before. But no he was acting... defensive? About what? It hadn't started until he'd pushed Avery- and felt his chest. And his chest was abnormally large for a guy with his slim frame. What the hell did this mean? Rhys shook his head to clear the thought.
Avery couldn't be transgender. This school would have torn him up long ago. No, there had to be some other explanation. Maybe he had some weird tumor or something...
But Rhys couldn't shake it from his head that Avery might be a girl...

Avery ended up cutting class that period. He needed some time to relax and unwind... To get his thoughts in order. He was probably freaking out over nothing. Just because he had some issues with his father didn't mean that every guy was the enemy. He seriously had to get over himself... It was cruel to be nice to Rhys, almost befriend him, and then suddenly start acting... Well, like he always did.
The bell seemed to ring all too soon, and Avery got up from where he was hiding, in an empty corner in the gym.
He was calmer now... And he knew that what he was doing wasn't fair on Rhys. So instead of going off to the Principal's office, Avery strolled over to the cafeteria - glancing around for Rhys as he arrived.

Rhys was distracted all throughout algebra trying to figure out what was going on with Avery. He decided to wait near the principal's office to eat in order to catch Avery going in. He felt relieved with deciding something after over 40 minutes of pondering everything and finding nothing definate. So, when the bell rang, he jumped up and dashed to the principal's office- where no one was there.
He muttered a curse under his breath. Of course. Avery probably knew Rhys would look for him and ditched this, too. He slid down to the floor, his lunch money jangling in his pockets. He sighed and put his face in his hands. And here he was, spending yet another lunch by himself...

Avery searched the cafeteria for a while, but no matter how hard he looked, Rhys did not appear to be there. Avery heaved a frustrated sigh, and decided that he might as well see the principal now after all - since he had to do it sometime.
So, shrugging off his irritation, he quickly bought himself a couple of chocolate bars to get him through the rest of the day - since he wasn't really hungry enough for anything else - and made his way slowly and unenthusiastically back toward the Principal's office.
Where, much to his surprise, he found Rhys sitting - looking decidedly dejected.
"Hey." He greeted him - surprising himself by the fact that he felt somewhat glad to see the boy. Rhys wasn't as frightening when he looked this weak...
"What did you get busted for?" He asked cheerily, a teasing grin splitting his lips.

Rhys sat on the corner pouting - his face scrunched up like a little kid's who didn't get ice cream. He kept watching for Avery but no one appeared. He tried to pass time by making bets with himself but soon he got bored. People stared at him but he didn't care.
He was just about to give up when Avery came by.
"Hm? Oh hi." He said unenthusiastically. "Done ditching me?" He asked sarcastically. "And I didn't get busted. I was waiting for you for after you got out of here." He jabbed a thumb towards the door to his left.
His tone was cold and deep, and he hoped it didn't show he was just about to smile because of Avery's grin lighting up the room.
