Tyson was shocked for a moment, but then he thought over it... He had nearly died, too. It wasn't surprising, really.
I see..., he wrote slowly - then paused briefly, before adding: He deserved it, though.
It was harsh, and it was blunt, but it was Ty's honest opinion.
Lizzie... Lizzie would be okay. She was tough. She would probably be angry with him, though... Stix had been one of her favourite boyfriends... But that didn't matter now.
Ty flipped to a new page, and clicked his pen.
Hey, Violet... Why did you come after me?
He glanced toward her as he finished writing this, wanting to see her reaction.
He didn't know why... But he thought it was important that he understood this. Why she had helped him... Especially after Lizzie's heartless teasing.
Ty felt some colour begin to return to his cheeks.

"Honestly? You're the only person on this earth who seems to understand me. Who actually helped me once in a while. Maybe even cared, I dunno" She shrugged, running her hand through her strange hair, which was highlighted by the bright hospital lights.

Tyson nodded slowly, and a slight curve that might have been a smile lifted his lips.

Thank you.

He wrote, his expression showing sincere gratitude.

I feel like you understand me too, somewhat...
I'm sorry for causing you such hassle.

He glanced over at her again, watching her. Her hair was the most amazing shade... And it was well groomed and shiny...
Ty quickly shook off the thoughts, feeling instantly irritated with himself. What on earth was he making such pointless observations for?!

"What hassle? Hey, obviously I do this everyday" She smiled, teasing him slightly. Tyson was a nice lad, she thought to herself. Not bad looking, either....She shook such pointless thoughts away - Emotions weren't for her.

Ty chuckled softly at Violet's teasing - for once not getting defensive. He appreciated her attempt to lighten the mood. It had worked, too...
Picking up his pen, Ty began to write again.

It's ironic, really. Usually I'd do just about anything to avoid making a scene...

Tyson thought back to the explosion... Remembering the cold acceptance with which he'd dropped the match - knowing that he could easily be killing himself and Stix. He had killed Stix... And how he himself had survived, Ty had no idea.
This reminded him of something else.

I don't know how I got it... He wrote neatly with a thoughtful frown, But your knife saved me back there.

He looked over at Violet again to find her looking back at him, and he met her gaze for a moment. Feeling flustered, he glanced quickly away - feeling heat creep up the back of his neck.
For goodness sake, what on earth was wrong with him?!

"Ah..my knife is cool. Who knows how you got it? Probably caught on your clothes when you fell asleep on me" Violet shrugged. "It is quite small and you have no idea it's in your pocket when you have it" She spoke softly. "Glad it helped you, anyway" She added lightly, smiling.

Yes, he remembered that... How could he have been stupid enough to do such a thing?! Lizzie's teasing played endlessly through his mind like a stuck record, and he felt himself gradually turning a deep shade of red, despite how pale he had been before.
Completely silent, Ty slowly pulled the covers over his head and hid beneath them, feeling terribly shy...
But why?! Gosh, this was frustrating!

"Uh....Ok" She spoke softly, raising an eyebrow, watching him go under the covers. Thats a little bit weird.

"Don't mind him." A soft voice murmured.
Recognising it, Ty poked his head out again, glancing toward the door. Sure enough, there stood Lizzie. He wasn't too sure how he felt about that...
"He's just a little shy." Lizzie finished, smiling with less than her usual enthusiasm.
She walked over to Violet, pulled up a chair, and sat down beside her. "Thanks for coming here with him." She said quietly, staring down at Ty, who in turn was staring blankly to the ceiling. "If you need to go now, I'll stay with him." She offered somewhat stiffly.
Ty glanced toward her.
Lizzie was putting on a convincing act, but he could tell that beneath it all she was furious. He gnawed his lip uncertainly.
He was definitely in no fit state to defend himself if Lizzie decided to strangle him, and he wouldn't put it past her, either.

"Uh, ok" Violet nodded softly, standing up, throwing a confused glance at Ty before leaving. Unsure of what was going to happen.

Ty felt his spirits drop as Violet walked hesitantly to the door. At the glance she threw him, Ty gave a sincere smile, and waved a little goodbye. If this was the last time he was going to see Violet, at least she could now remember him with a smile on his face... Ty shrugged off the gloomy thoughts, waiting until Violet was gone until turning to Lizzie. He reached for the paper...
"Save it, Ty!" Lizzie snapped sharply, standing up and glaring down at him. "You've killed Stix! Are ya happy now?! For all we know, the whole gang could turn against us! Even if they don't, Stix was a good source of income!"
Ty raised his chin and endured Lizzie's fury with dignity, clinging fast to his pride. He still believed he had done the right thing, and nobody would convince him otherwise.
"If you weren't so darn stubborn..." Lizzie was muttering now, and Ty didn't even know what she was on about. "I'll teach you a lesson!" She hissed menacingly, before grabbing the chair next the bed and lifting it high above her head.
Ty sat up straight, and held his head high. He knew he could not run away, and he could not fight back - so at the very least he would take it with pride!
Ty clenched his jaw, closed his eyes, and waiting for the blow to come.

Violet paced outside, chewing her lip gently. Something wasn't right...not right at all....But still, he'd be fine...right?

At the last minute, Ty managed to jerk his arm up to defend himself. He gave an involuntary yelp of pain as the chair made contact, and the sound of splintering wood echoed through the room. Lizzie's hair was flying madly around her blotchy red face - looking like fire - and her eyes were stretched so wide that she looked completely mad. Ty clutched his ruined arm to his chest, his breath coming in short, desperate gasps. He simply couldn't get in enough oxygen with a punctured lung...

Violet heard the crash, both her and a concerned nurse walking in. Lizzie looked mega league annoyed, and Violet knew why. She wasn't about to say though. Tyson had it bad enough without going to jail...wait, she asked herself again...

Why do you care??!!

The nurse hurriedly escorted Lizzie from the room, then hurried back to check on Tyson, tsking when she saw the state of his arm. She made some adjustments on his IV, causing the powerful painkillers to flow faster into his bloodstream, and slowly Tyson's breathing began to ease up.
Once he felt he had a grip on himself, Ty glanced toward Violet - only to look down again quickly.
He picked up his pen and notebook, and inked in the obvious.
Lizzie is angry.

"That's a tad obvious" Violet spoke softly, sitting down again, watching him. "What'd she do?" She asked.

Tyson sighed, but his expression seemed faintly amused nonetheless.
Then he head Violet's question, an he considered it for a moment before writing his response.

What would any good sister do? She tried to beat my brains out with a chair.

This comment showed the first hint of Tyson's strange sense of humour - a cruel sarcasm and dry wit that he seldom publicised. But somehow, it was easier to be himself around Violet - if only a little.
Stifling a yawn, Ty slumped back nonchalantly in the bed, glad that the pain was subsiding now, but not liking the drowsiness that came with it.

"Lovely" Violet commented. "You falling asleep again?" She asked, smiling. Amused by this.

A nurse walked in, smiling faintly. "Hi Tyson, i;m Nurse Jackson. Just to inform you that we'll contact your dad about the bills, and we'll ask him to come in to talk about it" She smiled.

Violet raised an eyebrow at the nurse, slightly confused.

Ty glanced at nurse Jackson, his face mirroring Violet's confused expression. His father was supposed to missing somewhere in the wilderness, many miles away... What were these people playing at?! Had they actually found his father?

Violet raised an eyebrow curiously.
"We'll notify you when he's on his way" The nurse spoke, before walking out. A few minutes later, walking back in. "He's only a few minutes away"

Ty stared at the nurse in disbelief, and when she walked out, he turned and stared at Violet in disbelief. Was this for real...?
Shaking his head, Ty grabbed his pen and paper.
Pinch me.
He wrote quickly,
I must have drugged into dreamland.
The whole situation was so far fetched... Ty just couldn't believe us.

Violet frowned softly, confused. Watching the door as it slowly opened.....A man walking in, mumbling to himself. Wait, she knew that voice....

Ty's head jerked up like a gunshot as he heard a soft voice outside. It rang a bell... A voice he'd half forgotten, somewhere along the line. It sent chills down his spine, and Tyson sunk back deeper into the pillow.
Then the door was pushed open, and the man took a step in. Ty recognised him instantly, and realised instantly that the reason this man was here could not be for him, but must be for Violet - and it would not end well.
The man's head was turned, talking to somebody over his shoulder, and Ty leaped at this opportunity.
Impulsively, his arm darted forwards and he grabbed Violet's hand - shooting her a meaningful glance and simply hoping that she would read his expression. There was no time to write.
He had promised he'd cover for her again... And he would - right now. No matter what happened, he would not let that man lay a hand on her.
Not that he cared, either way... That would be rdiculous. Violet getting beaten to a pulp would not bother him at all. (Tyson ignored the shiver than ran down his spine at this thought.) He would simply protect her because he had promised, and because it would be inconvenient if he ended up getting blamed fo hurting her. That could happen, after all.
Satisfied by this reasoning, Ty released Violet's hand, and fixed the man with a defiant glare.

The man froze when he laid eyes on the two. His eyes narrowed. "What are you doing here?" He asked Violet simply.
