He looked back, and took a bit of a double take. "What're you smilin' about?" He asked, grinning at her. He slowed down a bit so that they were walking in stride with eachother.

"I'm just thinking about home."I said smiling,"I kinda miss Kansas but it seems nice here,too."What I didn't add was that he made this place better.

Kyle thought for a moment. "What was it like there? Was anythin' like really different there than here?" He asked, looking at her and giving her a small smile.

"I guess it was like any other small town."I said,"And the biggest difference is that around here you see more corn feilds than wheat feilds."Then I asked a question of my own,"So whats your story?"

Kyle thought for moment. "Theres ot much. I've lived here my whole life, and I even took my first steps in that ol' barn." He nodded his head towards the run down, unused barn.

I laughed,"Thats kinda cute,in a way."I glanced at the barn again,noticing the beer bottles on the ground and fence post."Are you sure the barn isn't being used?"I asked.

He narrowed his eyes, then veered off towards the barn. "I was pretty sure it wasn't being used." He called back to her.

"It looks like someone was having a party."I said as I followed him.

He reached the barn and got off Shine. He inspected the beer bottles, his eyes narrowed.

I got off of Whiskey,not wanting to risk him getting glass in his hoof,and walked over to stand by Kyle.

He took his hat off and ran his fingers through his hair. "I hate it when the do this." He said, his voice sounding really annoyed.

"Who's 'they'?"I asked curiosly when I caught the annoyed edge in his tone.

"Some of the people from the highschool. They like to party, and they decide it's okay to use our old barn." He shook his head. "We've had loads of cut up hooves because of all the glass. It's frustrating, and it's hard to keep them from getting infected seeing as a majority of our horses spend their time in the pasture instead of the barn."

"Then why doesn't your dad get someone to ride out here at night?Then if theres a party he can call the sheriff."I said, thinking out loud.

"It's kind of dangerous. Coyotes, Mountain Lions, bears." He smiled at her, but he was serious about the mountain lions and coyotes

"Your kidding,right?"I asked,fear tainting my tone.

"About the bears, yeah." He walked over to Shine and mounted, waiting for her.

I went and got on Whiskey again."Wow,so it's probably not a good idea to go ridding alone,or without a gun?"I asked as we started ridding again.

"No, not really. Especially at night." He said, clucking to Shine and going into a fast trot.

"I'll remember that."I said as Whiskey started speeding up.The air was really humid that day and the sun was right over head,which helped with my next question."Do you want to go swimmin'?"

"Sure. That sounds great." He smiled, then urged Shine into a lope towards the creek. "Theres a little pond or lake thing, it's kind of to small to be a normal lake, but to big to be a pond."

"So,tell me more about the school,please?Like the good/bad teachers,the people you should be friends with and the ones you shouldn't."I said,still ridding along side of him.

He thought for a moment. "Hm...well mostly the teachers are nice. The best teacher is Mr. Bard, the math teacher. And as for who you shouldn't hang out with, it becomes pretty apparent when you get there. There's druggies, jocks, skaters, emos, preps, pretty much the same as any other highschool. Just small."

"So what group do you fall into?"I asked curiously.

He thought about this. "Not sure. I kind of just mosey on through. I mean I have friends, but i don't really belong in a group."
