"We can't risk that." Laiko concluded simply. He whipped out his gun and loaded it, then turned to Scar. "Where is he?" He asked darkly, His eyes suddenly fading to a dark, shadowy forest green. He was clearly not himself, and yet, he definitely was. A low growl erupted in his throat as he waited impatiently for Scar's answer. He wouldn't let his cause be jeapordized. Not a chance. What difference would it make if one assassin who was supposed to be dead anyway suddenly disappeared.

Laiko released a savage growl as Joe grabbed Scar, instantly pointing his gun at the man. He glanced from the gun to Joe, then smirked cockily and slid the gun back into its holster, raising one fist instead and holding his injured hand behind his back. "Shouldn't take more than this to beat you senseless." He announced with a sneer. "I'd let you beg for your life, Joe, but as you've already upset my friend here, I reckon it's too late for that!" His sneer widened to a demented grin as a bark of sadistic laughter burst from his lips, and he flung himself at Joe, ready to sink his fist into the man's face. As his fist was about to strike its target, Laiko felt his arm stop abruptly. Glancing at the limb in surprise, he saw a hand clamped firmly down on his bicep. He reluctantly raised his dark green eyes to bring the cold, angry face of the head ino view. He dropped his gaze to the ground instantly. "I'd have expected better from you, Agent One." He said quietly. "Brawling, and on the night of your promotion, I ask you? It almost makes me wish you were drunk..." He sighed and released Laiko's arm to run a hand through his hair, then turned his attention to the entire party. "Well?!" He demanded irritably, "Is somebody going to tell me what the hell's going on here?!"

The head narrowed his eyes as he glanced from Laiko, to Joe, to Scar. "Well, I don't know about that..." He began hesitantly, frowning in confusion. "I happen to think that Number One here would have shot Joe to smitherines after witnessing something like that, rather than trying-" He broke off then with an incredulous sigh, turning to stare at Laiko with a pitying gaze. "Really, boy... To pick a fist fight with him?! And with one hand behind your back, to boot!" He scoffed and shook his head in cold disappointment. "Have you lost your mind, boy? Have you forgotten waht 'Number One' means to this guild?!" Laiko cringed at the man's words, then mumbled an incoherent excuse and dropped his gaze. "Don't give me excuses!" The head snapped coldly, "I don't know what's been up with you lately, but you certainly haven't been yourself. This game is as much about attitude as skills, you know... You used to have both. Hence why we gve you this positon. I don't know, Agent One... I think you need some time to unwind. Consider yourself suspended until further notice." Laiko's mouth dropped open and he slumped against the wall, sliding slowly to the ground as disbelief paralysed him. He stared straight ahead, not sure what he ought to think.
The head had turned to Joe and Scar now. "Lucy, I hate to doubt your word, for you've proved yourself a fine asset. However, Joe here has been an indispensible asset to us over the years, and I trust him. I'm sorry. Joe, until such time as Agent One is back in the guild, I want you to be Lucy's training partner. Everybody happy? Good. Then don't let me catch you brawling like this again!" He snapped, turning on his heel and walking away.

Laiko sprang up from the floor as he heard the gunshot, whipping out his own gun to shoot Joe into oblivion. Yet before he could pull the trigger, another gunshot sounded, and Laiko crumpled to the ground and lay there motionless, blood slowly pooling around his head.
From behind, another boy approached, holding up his own gun, which looked almost exactly like Laiko's own. In fact, this boy bore a huge resemblance to his victim, except for his expression. Whilst a moment before Laiko had seemed fierce and savage, this boy seemed level-headed and kind, almost as Laiko had been before... Before all this had happened.
The boy kept his gun pointed at Joe as he approached. "Please don't move, sir." He requested politely, "I do not want to have to shoot you." He explained with genuine regret in his tone. He kept his gun trained on Joe as he reached Laiko and knelt beside him, briefly glancing over the shallow wound on the older boy's head where the bullet had skimmed him. He whispered incoherent words to Laiko's unconscious form, then straightened and walked over to Scar, placing himself between her and Joe. "Sir, would you kindly report to the head so that he might consider what your punishment is to be? I must see to this lady." He said softly to Joe, gesturing toward Scar.

"Hush, you'll be fine." The boy murmured quietly to Scar. He reached inside his big black coat and withdrew a small advanced first aid kid from an inside pocket. Placing it on the ground, he quickly flipped it open and grabbed a pair of tweezers. Lifting Scar's shirt up slightly so that he could see the wound, he detected the soft, silver sheen of the bullet and pulled it out as gently as he could. Once he had removed it, the boy cleaned the wound quickly and professionally with antiseptic, then placed a wad of gauze over it and bandaged it expertly. Then entire process took him no more than 5 minutes, and when he was done he gave the girl a quick jab in the arm - inserting painkillers into her bloodstream. The wound was not too serious, thankfully, and he thought that with a bit of luck she would be fine soon.
He glanced over at Laiko, then. Gnawing his lip nervously, he walked over with timid steps and quickly tended to the older boy's wounds: the fresh one on his head as well as the telltale self-inflicted injury on his hand. Once he was done, the boy got to his feet and hurriedly departed the scene, heading toward the head's office. He would have to report this. Something needed to be done...

The head strolled down the corridor with his jaw set and anger in his step. As he reached the scene, he allowed his expression to soften slightly and nodded in greeting to Lucy, then glared down at Laiko's unconscious form. "Wake up." He ordered, flinging the glass of water he was holding over Laiko's head.
Coughing and spluttering, Laiko winced, then blinked his way back to consciousness and eased himself into a sitting position. "What happened?" He asked with a low growl. "Why was I out? And why am I... wet?" He asked, pulling an almost cat-like face at the feeling of the water dripping from his hair.
"You were out because you were shot down by a member of the medical team, and you're wet because I wet you." The head explained simply, throwing the rest of the water at Laiko to demonstrate. Laiko shook his head, though he was too concerned by what the man had said before to retaliate. Stubbornly ignoring the pain in his head, he replied "...By a medic?!" His voice thick with incredulity. "Yes, Matt, a medic. I don't know what's got into you lately..." He sighed, shaking his head, then glanced from Scar to Laiko. "I'm sorry you got hurt, Lucy." He apologised gravely, "Had I anticipated it, I would not have let you out of my sight, but I suppose I expected our best assassin to be able to protect you..." He sighed, shaking his head. "Well, I guess I was wrong. From now on you'll be teamed with Will - he should be able to help you. Your first mission will be to take Joe down. You embark as soon as you have recovered. For now, I shall escort you to the hospital wing." He said gently to Scar, then turned back to Laiko. "And you he growled, will be staying in the psyche wing until you get your head in the game. Honestly, what the hell is your problem? You call this the attitude of an assassin?! You've fallen a long way. I'd not be surprised if a novice could take you out." He shook his head in cold disappointment, then turned away from the glaring Laiko and offered his hand to Scar to help her up.

"Huh?" The head frowned at Scar. "With.. What was that now? Oh, never mind. You're probably delirious... Let's get you to the hospital wing for some rest." He offered, though he did not attempt to help her up again. If she wanted to walk on her own - great! It simply meant she was even more determined than he had originally thought, not to mention tougher. Still what was this 'Laiko' rubbish...? She seemed to be refrring to Mat, but... Oh, whatever. It wasn't worth his attention. Shrugging off his confusion, the head shot Laiko a sharp glance.
Muttering curses under his breath, Laiko got to his feet and traipsed dizzily toward the 'psyche ward'. Of all the insulting places to send him... Though he was not yet oblivious enough to think that te head didn't have a point. The man was right... He had lost something that had made him brilliant before, and he simply wasn't finding it on his own...

"We won't let him hut you, Lucy. Rest assured." The head said softly, before beckoning to her and turning to walk off toward the hospital wing.
Meanwhile, Laiko had had second thoughts on the topic of his 'punishment'. He had no intention whatsoever of admitting to mental defects, so instead he planned to complete the self-assigned mission that he had taken up before, and blow Joe into smitherenes. Smiling slightly at the thought, Laiko strolled in the direction Joe had gone with slightly wobbly legs. He had still not quite recovered from the shot... And he was still angry about it - yet he could do nothing about it, since he had no idea who his shooter had been.

"How were we to suspect that one of our own would turn against us?" The head asked coolly. "These are the risks of the job. Take it or leave it." He stated simply before turning and walking off toward the hospital wing - not bothering to make an attempt at kindness any longer.

Laiko finally found Joe sitting in a bar. He barged in and stood there, clearly enjoying the fact that he was the center of attention - though as an assassin he should have known it would be wiser to sneak up on Joe and kill him without a fuss. "Anybody up for a bar fight?" Laiko asked cockily, "We could even make all this look like an accident." He added, whipping out his gun and twirling it between his fingers.

As he reached the hospital wing, the head cleared his throat to alert the staff to his presence, then explained to the first woman who walked over exactly what had happened and what ought to be done. With that, he bade Scar farewell and traipsed back to his office.

The nurse walked over to Scar and lead her to a bed, then turned to her. "It seems your wound has already been seen to. I've been informed that you are to be partnering Luke after your recovery, so I shall contact him to care for you. It seems more logical, since you two will probably need to get to know one another. She flashed Scar a kind smile, then trotted off to fetch Luke.

"Let's skip the small talk, shall we?" Laiko suggested coldly, "Besides, I don't consider myself a cradle-snatcher." He added, scoffing at Joe's mockery with a self absorbed air of a person who clearly thought his comeback to be extremely clever, and didn't care who knew it. He was indeed becoming a tad big-headed, but at that moment such things did not matter to Laiko. "I'm bored of this already." Laiko informed Joe. He gave a large fake yawn and stretched his hands upwards, then quickly fired 3 shots in quick succession - Aiming for Joe's heart and head - the fatal areas... Plus one for luck. Whether the man dodged or not honestly didn't bother him much. He'd be dead before the morning dawned, in any case. Laiko would see to that.

Clearly bored, Laiko blew on his gun, then slipped it back into his pocket and walked out of the bar - leaving the dead man there at the mercy of those clustered around him. He didn't care. Joe had asked for it. Laiko was bored of this place... He was the best now, through and through, so where was the challenge? More importantly, where was the respect? First that kid, then Joe, then the head and even the friggin' medic who had dared to shoot him down! What on earth was that all about?! Growling in annoyance, Laiko stomped off toward the hospital wing, intending to grab Scar and drag her back to his room. He was miserable, and it was common knowledge that misery loved company.

A short while after the nurse had left, the same young boy who had originally treated Scar's wounds stepped into the room. He fixed a polite smile on his face and made his way over to her bed. "How are you feeling?" He asked kindly, "I apologise for having to go against your wishes before - but your condition left me no choice." He added gravely. "I hope you will forgive me."

"Like who?" Luke asked, frowning slightly. "I don't think I know anybody by that name..." He added thoughtfully, before turning his attention back to Scar and regarding her carefully. As she began to rub her temples, Luck reached into the pocket of his white coat and pulled out an injection needle and a tub of tablets. "How bad is your pain?" He asked kindly, "I can either inject painkillers straight into your bloodstream, or you can just take an asprin if you prefer." He offered with a gentle smile - the expression bringing out a striking resemblance to his brother in his face.
