I patted Shadow one last time before I walked out of the barn.Today was my first day of school in Cali and I was still trying to remember her schedule.I went inside my familys new house and grabbed my car keys off the counter and walked out the door with a ,"See ya later."over my shoulder.I walked to my purple Ford Mustang,brand new,and opened the door.It was already getting hot out so I turned the ac on when I started the car.I backed out of the drive way while putting my Brooks and Dunn cd in.I was at school in about 20 minuets.I took a deep breath before getting out like I ruled the school.I looked down at what I was wearing one last time before walking to sit on the steps by the front door.I sat there waiting for school to start.

I pulled up in my dark grey Dodge Charger and pulled into my usual parking space. Everyone knew it was mine so it was always open. I smiled and got out of the car. I walked over to a group of my friends passing the cheerleaders on the way. I nodded as they all cooed over me.

I rolled my eyes when I saw how the cheer leaders acted about one boy.He was cute but still all the barbies were piratically drooling over him.I pulled out my favorite book,Paint the Wind,and started to read it,but I couldn't focus on it.I looked up and saw people staring at me like I was an alien.I just glared at them til they looked away.I put my book away and sat with my back against the rail.

My friends pointed over to a new girl leaning up against a car. Country? In cali? It doesnt work. But I guess she'll find that out for herself.

I got really annoyed when I saw some boys pointing and staring at me,"Take a picture it last longer."I said sweetly and flipped them off.Such a great school!,I thought sarcastically.I pulled my phone out when it started to ring,the ring tone was American Honey,so i knew instantly that it was my older sister.I smiled and answered with a hello.

My group of friends and me all chanted. "Oh shit!" Together and flipped her off all at the same time. One of them yelled back at her, "i'd rather have one of your momma!" In a fake country accent.

"I'll call you back."I told my sister.I walked over to the boy who had said he'd rather have a picture of my mom.I punched my square in the nose,"Make fun of me again or say anything about my family again and I'll aim lower."I said sweetly and walked away.I called my sister back and told her what had just happened and laughed at her response of,"Just another dipshit country hater."

"Damn!" I yelled and stuck my hand up for a hi-5 as she walked right past me.

I just glared at him and walked by heading into the school since they opened the doors.I walked to my locker tossing my book bag in and grabbing my notebook and pen out.I walked to my first class which was algebra,a subject I was good in at my last school.

I laughed.
Well fine." I said. I walked into the school just before the first bell. I grabbed my algebra book and headed to class. I stepped through the door just as the bell rang. I smiled as the teacher gave me a mean stare.

I almost groaned when i saw the loser who had tried to give me a high 5 come into the class.I started to tap my pencil against my desk.I was really starting to think I just had bad luck today when I noticed there were no open seats by me.I smiled to myself.To my right was an emo chick, football idiot behind me,and 1 barbie in front of me and another to the right. To say the least I was kinda glad I had preps by me.

I looked around and saw the country girl from earlier. I walked over to the girl in front of her. "Hey, sweetie, would you mind moving?" She giggled then picked up her books and moved. "Thanks." I said sitting down..

I couldn't believe the barbie gave her seat up so easily.And there just went my luck!"I thought to myself.I rolled my eyes and looked towards the front of the class as the teacher started writing on the white board.

I nodded to everyone around me. "Good morning." I said before turning back to the front.

"Bastard."I muttered under my breath,while doodling a horse rearing.I was actually a pretty good artist so the doodle came out looking like Shadow.

"There is no need for name calling." I said without turning around. I didnt know who said it but I guessed it was little miss cowgirl.

"Sure there is player."I muttered for his ears only.I easily solved what the teacher had written on the board but didn't raise my hand to answer.I had learned all this stuff in 9th grade.

"Alright cowgirl. You wanna play that way? Then lets dance." I said finishing the problem.

"I don't mind being called cowgirl thank you very much."I said.I started the next problem and had it down in about 30 seconds.I raised my hand,"Um can't you make these problems any harder?I'm not a barbie like some other people in here,I actually have a brain that works."that got a laugh from a couple of guys and glares from all the other barbies.The emo chick laughed and I looked over at her and smiled,"So you have a brain too?"I asked and she laughed and said,"Ya unlike,well how you said,the barbies."

"The teacher looked over at her. "Well sure. Would you like to come teach the class then?" She asked handing her the expo marker. I smiled, "Good luck." I said and smacked her butt as she walked up to the board as the teacher was turned around.

I swung around and punched him in the face too."Don't you city boys get it?Don't touch me,talk about my family,or make fun of me."I told him.I went back to my desk and grabbed my stuff.I tossed the expo marker to the teacher before walking out of the class.

I grabbed my jaw and it was all i could do to keep from cussing.

I stopped at my locker and got my stuff out of it.I called my mom while walking to my car.She wasn't surprised that I had already got into a fight but she tried talking me into staying at the hell hole til the end of the day,which was only 2 more hours since they had an early dismissal.I said no and hung up.I drove home and left my stuff in the car.I went outback and walked to the barn to see Shadow.I whistled when I walked into the barn and Shadow stuck his head over the side of his stall door."Hey boy."I said handing him a sugar cube.I got 2 lead ropes and tied them to his halter.I hauled myself onto his back and rode him out of the barn.I rode him around the yard for about an hour or two,I wasn't paying attention,when I decided I would take him to a park that had trails so he could run.I went inside the house and grabbed my dads truck keys and left a note saying I took Shadow too the park.I put him in the horse trailer then started the drive to the park.

I ran to the bathroom and looked at my face in the mirror. It wasn't bleeding, but dammit it hurt. I pulled on my jaw till it popped back in place. I took my stuff home after school was dismissed and decided to go for a jog at the park. I pulled into the parking lot. I set off on one of the horse trails. No one ever used them and they were easier to run than the jogging trails.
