The Apocalypse - Can YOU survive?

Meg got up and walked after him, beckoning Darren after her. She stood behind him, occasionally glancing from the new boy to behind her, to see if there were any more of the undead nightmares coming after them.

Jeremy spun around as he heard Drake begin talking, rushing back to see who he had found.
And lo and behold, there was Kai. Not just Kai, but two more survivors as well!
Jeremy beckoned quickly for Amira to join him, then stepped forward with a grin to embrace Kai. Kai, of course, was having none of it. He shifted away from Jeremy, fixing him with a confused, suspicious expression. Jeremy laughed at his friend's reaction, then turned to the newcomers.
"More survivors!" He exclaimed, clapping his hands quietly. "Oh goodie! We must all get acquainted... But first, back to the basement, methinks - before more of these zombies show up." He shuddered theatrically, then hurried back toward the trapdoor, beckoning for everybody to follow.

Meg gave the guy a brief smile, wiping her blood covered hands on her jeans. "Where can we go that's practically zombie proof? We'd have to be pretty quick though, there's no doubt that those things heard that blast."

"There's a basement here." Jeremy explained, "They'll find us eventually - but that's true no matter where we go. At least we could rest a while..." He shrugged, then yanked the trapdoor open, sending a shaft of light falling down over Mattie and Ben - who had regained consciousness by now.
"Jeremy, is that you?" Mattie asked sharply. "It's me." Jeremy replied, quickly beckoning to the survivors to follow him as he hurried down the steps into the room below.
Drake folded his arms and hung back aloofly - muttering something about waiting outside for the zombies, but Kai grabbed his ear and dragged him down the stairs - despite Drake's ceaseless cursing and thrashing.

Meg dragged Darren inside, ignoring the childish yells from the boy behind her. "We can't stay here forever though. At some point we're going to have to find somewhere else." She took a look around the dusty basement.

"There's no 'we'!" Drake snapped viciously, pulling away from Kai and advancing threateningly toward the girl. "There's just me, and these idiots - and I for one don't want to be down here, cowering away. I want to be out there - fighting like a f***ing man!"
"Kai, shut Drake up, would you?" Jeremy requested wearily. Kai nodded, grabbing Drake by the collar of his tattered leather jacket and jerking him backwards, then cuffing him roughly on the back of the head before releasing him again. Drake grumbled, but stayed quiet for a while, despite being in high dudgeon.
"It's true that we can't stay here forever..." Jeremy murmured, his eyes locked on the girl's, "But we can't do much else, either. I don't know about you - but we've travelled a long way, and we're all dead tired." He glanced briefly toward Kai, and added, "Some of us are going to pass out soon if we don't rest. And eat, for that matter..." He placed a hand over his growling stomach, and glanced at the girl again. "I don't suppose you have any food, do you?" He asked with a hopeful smile.

((Assuming that Amira is also in the basement now. :3 ))

Meg was slightly taken aback by his violent outburst, although she stood her ground and stared straight at him. "Well if you go out there you're welcome to die at the hands of maybe thousands of those undead creeps, but I think the majority of us want to stay inside and safe thanks very much."

She sat on the floor, letting the bat drop to her side. "Food? We're in a supermarket.Go wild."

"Just ignore him." Jeremy said, gesturing vaguely toward Drake. "You get used to it after a while."
As she answered his question about the food, Jeremy glanced around at his posse. "Anybody manage to grab something while we were up there?" He asked. Silence.
"Right, so we've got to go back out... Okay - Mattie, Ben, Drake - you guys stay here with Amira. Kai, you and I will go up with..." He trailed off, suddenly realising he didn't know the newcomers' names.
"Oh, sorry..." He murmured, glancing from the girl to the boy - whom he had barely noticed until now - and back again. "I didn't catch your names... I'm Jeremy. That's Kai, Drake, Mattie, Ben and Amira." He pointed to each in turn, and they all offered a brief greeting - except for Drake, who was sulking, and Kai - who was shy.

"I'm Meg, and this is Darren." She gestured behind her, and Darren gave a small wave. "Sure, we can get enough food to last a while. Let's go." She stood up again, taking her bat for safe keeping.

"Pleased to meet you." Jeremy replied with a smile as he began climbing the stairs again. Kai waited for Meg and Darren to leave the basement before he was willing to follow. He didn't like having people's eyes on his back.
"Right, we've got to be quiet..." Jeremy said as they reached the top. "So let's just hunt for some food. Best get it done quick, before the zombies come..." He glanced from Darren to Meg, and then from himself to Kai - trying to work out if they should split into pairs to get things done quicker, or just work as a group... And if they split into pairs, then which pairs...?

((Rorah, care to answer that? XD If they're going to have some socialising time, we might as well plan it properly. :3 It should be pretty rare, after all... > ))

"How about me and Kai?" Meg suggested, looking back at him.

Jeremy nodded, glad that he'd not had to make the decision himself. And, he figured, it worked out best this way. If anything went wrong, Kai was far more likely to be a help than he was.
"Right, that leaves you and me, mate." He said with a grin, turning to Darrel. "Let's hurry, before more zombies get here..." With that, he hurried off down the nearest wreck of an aisle, leaving the burned and bloodied Kai shifting his weight uncomfortable from foot to foot and staring at the ground - wishing that he could be anywhere else.

Meg watched Darren leave, before turning to Kai. "Well I suppose we'd better find some food. Come on, let's go down here."
She turned into the tinned food aisle, before grabbing some bags from the empty tills. She tossed a few to Kai, hoping that he would take that as a hint to start getting stuff.

Kai caught the bags, and with a silent nod of acceptance, he began grabbing whatever food he thought would last and shoving it into them. He worked quickly and efficiently, and the bags became full quickly.
As he walked down yet another aisle - still following after Meg - Kai suddenly felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. He stumbled slightly, but managed to catch himself - then leaned against the shelf beside him for balance.
Jeremy was right... He needed to rest, before he passed out.

Meg started shoving food into the bags, only pausing to glance down the aisle. When the silence became too much to handle, she turned around to look at Kai, mouth open to say something. "Are you okay?" She frowned, walking up to him. "You look really pale."

Kai nodded vaguely, then spoke in his usual hesitant whisper. "S-Still a little Sh-shaken from the f-fight." He managed, forming the words in a slow, quiet stutter.
He stood still a while longer, waiting for himself to recover so that he could move on - but it wasn't that simple. He had lost a lot of blood from the numerous little burns and gashes that the explosion had given. He also felt a steady trickle of blood running from his neck down his back - but he couldn't for the life of him remember where that wound had come from...

Meg's gaze lingered on him for a few more seconds, judging if he was okay or not, before turning back to what she was doing, quickly filling the bags. When she was done, she walked over to Kai, allowing him her full attention. "Let me see."

Kai shook his head, pushing away from the shelf and shoving the last few useful items he could see into the bags.
"I h-hear zombies." He stated simply, "W-w-we should hurry and m-meet up with the others."
Feeling rather stupid for his stuttering, Kai stumbled away from Meg and began heading back toward the trapdoor - his movements tense and cautious. He was alert for the presence of zombies...

Meg watched him leave for a few seconds, before walking back after him. "You know...I can tell when someone's ill." She stated bluntly, trailing Kai. "You really should let someone see if you're okay. You saved my life so it's only fair that I try to repay the favor."

((Of course! You only need to respond to the last post relating to your character, basically. So I intentionally keep a bunch of characters around so that everybody is involved, and nobody gets left behind...

SO, since you've not started yet, just read the last couple of posts, or ask me for the current situation, and fit your character in however you like... OR create a totally new situation - whatever you like!

Kai turned to glance at Meg, seeming slightly confused. He wasn't ill... A little anemic, perhaps, but blood loss was inevitable in war. He would recover just fine in time.
Still, he appreciated the gesture.
"Thanks." Kai whispered - his voice quiet, but steady for once.
"But..." He pointed toward the window, where some movement in the distance indicated the approach of something living. If statistics were anything to go by, it could really only mean one thing...
"We r-really have to g-get underground..."
And there came the stutter again. Perfect... It was no wonder nobody took him seriously.
